Summer Intern: Immigrant Youth Programming

About CVRAN:

Established in 2015, the Central Vermont Refugee Action Network (CVRAN) is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization based in Montpelier, Vermont.

The mission of the Central Vermont Refugee Action Network (CVRAN) is to welcome and provide support to refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers, and migrant workers living in, working in, and visiting Central Vermont.

We are seeking a summer intern to support two specific program areas—the Summer Reading Program and Summer Youth Enrichment Programming—and provide seasonal coordination for CVRAN’s client family teams. The role strengthens consistency, communication, and follow‑through during CVRAN’s busiest months. It is not a general administrative internship; it is a programmatic, detail‑oriented, community‑facing support role.

Compensation:

$20 per hour.

Hours:

Part-time, an average of 20 hours per week, with flexible hours. Some evenings and weekends required. The term of this position is between 12 and 16 weeks, with a flexible window ideally starting mid-April and finishing at the end of July.

Location:

Work can be completed hybrid between home and on-site but the expectation is to be present at CVRAN’s Montpelier office a minimum of 3 days a week for at least 75% of the weeks of the internship duration.

Essential Skills:

• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
• Can-do attitude and willingness to jump in on projects
• Understanding of issues affecting refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers, and migrant workers required
• Technology proficiency required - use of Google Workspace, Zoom, etc.
• Second language fluency desired

Key Responsibilities:

Youth Enrichment Summer Programming:

The intern collaborates with the Direct Services Coordinator to help provide structured, detail‑oriented support to ensure that children can participate smoothly in camps, recreation programs, and other summer enrichment opportunities. Responsibilities include:

• Coordinating email communication related to payments, scholarship documentation, and financial tracking, ensuring all required information is collected and organized.
• Organizing meet‑and‑greets between families and the volunteers who will be transporting their children, helping establish clarity, safety, and comfort before programs begin.
• Managing as‑needed scheduling throughout the weeks of camp, including confirming attendance, transportation needs, and any changes that arise.
• Maintaining and updating the daily transportation spreadsheet, ensuring accurate information for drivers, staff, and volunteers.
• Providing occasional back‑up transportation when needed, supporting continuity of participation when volunteer coverage is thin.
• Communicating with partner organizations (camps, recreation departments, arts and science programs) to confirm logistics, resolve issues, and ensure families have what they need.
• Tracking deadlines, registrations, and required materials so that youth can fully participate without barriers.

Summer Reading Program Support:

The intern supports CVRAN’s volunteer Summer Reading Program Coordinator, ensuring the program runs smoothly for volunteers, children, and families. Responsibilities include:

• Preparing and organizing reading materials, books, and literacy resources for weekly sessions.  
• Communicating with volunteers and families to confirm schedules, attendance, and any changes.  
• Relaying updates, challenges, and emerging needs to the Volunteer Summer Reading Program Coordinator in a timely, organized way.  
• Tracking participation, needs identified by volunteers, and conducting a program evaluation at the end of the summer.
• Coordinating picking up items from volunteers at the end of the summer

Additional Tasks:

The following will likely vary based on the intern’s particular skills and interests, and the needs that arise for the organization, but may include any of the following: 

• Assist with office tasks (printing, emailing, organizing files)
• Help compile content and assist with writing our newsletter
• Contribute to our social media (Instagram, Facebook, and our website)
• Shadow our Direct Services Coordinator or Family Team Leaders to support family needs arising during the term of the internship
• Interact respectfully with clients to assist CVRAN in providing services like transportation, outings, food access, or employment/educational meetings
• Participate in weekly supervision with designated supervisor, CVRAN’s Executive Director
