Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Payroll Clerk to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for processing accurate and timely payroll for our hourly farm labor workforce using the Datatech payroll system. This role requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of agricultural labor regulations, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with weekly payroll cycles.
Key Responsibilities
- Process weekly payroll for 100–500 farm labor employees using the Datatech system
- Enter and verify timecard data, piece-rate earnings, and production records
- Calculate and apply correct wages, overtime, bonuses, and deductions in accordance with California labor laws (including AB 5, minimum wage, OT rules, and farm labor-specific regulations)
- Ensure accurate tracking and payment of meal and rest period premiums when applicable
- Maintain employee records, including new hire paperwork, terminations, and status changes
- Process garnishments, benefits deductions, and tax withholdings
- Reconcile payroll reports and resolve discrepancies
- Generate and distribute pay statements and reports as needed
- Assist with year-end W-2 preparation and payroll tax reporting
- Work closely with field supervisors and crew leaders to verify hours and resolve timekeeping issues
- Ensure full compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll regulations for agricultural employers
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of payroll experience, preferably in farm labor, agriculture, or a high-volume hourly workforce environment
- Hands-on experience with Datatech payroll system (strongly preferred)
- Solid understanding of California wage and hour laws, especially as they apply to farm labor and piece-rate compensation
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets
- Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to meet strict weekly deadlines
- Bilingual English/Spanish (highly preferred)
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or related field a plus,
Work Schedule
Full-time, Monday–Friday (occasional Saturdays during peak season)
