What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Loading Dock position at CENTRAL VALLEY MEAT CO INC?
The Shipping Lead is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day shipping operations within the beef manufacturing facility. This position ensures accuracy, efficiency, and compliance in the staging, loading, and documentation of outbound shipments. The Shipping Lead provides direction to shipping staff, verifies product quality and count, maintains cold chain standards, and ensures compliance with USDA, HACCP, GMP, and company safety procedures.
Daily Responsibilities
- Assign and monitor daily tasks for shipping clerks, forklift operators, and loaders.
- Verify order accuracy, product labeling, and counts against bills of lading.
- Oversee pallet staging, wrapping, and loading of outbound trucks.
- Ensure product handling complies with cold chain standards and food safety regulations.
- Coordinate with production, inventory, and quality assurance to resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain shipping records and ensure documentation is completed accurately in the system (BOLs, manifests, temperature logs).
- Monitor dock safety, enforce PPE use, and uphold company safety standards.
- Communicate with drivers, brokers, and carriers to ensure timely departures.
- Train and mentor shipping staff in safe equipment use, GMP compliance, and company procedures.
- Report equipment issues, staffing concerns, or shipping delays to the Shipping Supervisor.
- Support cycle counts, inventory reconciliations, and audits as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a shipping, warehouse, or cold storage environment.
- Prior lead or supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of shipping documentation, bills of lading, and inventory practices.
- Ability to operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment safely.
- Good written and verbal communication skills; bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Knowledge of USDA, HACCP, GMP, and cold storage practices.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for 8–10 hours per shift.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 60 lbs. regularly.
- Ability to work in cold storage/freezer environments (28–40°F).
- Ability to bend, kneel, and operate warehouse equipment.
- Must wear all required PPE.
