Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site position for a Clinical Research Laboratory Technician in Austin, Texas.
The Clinical Research Laboratory Technician will support clinical trial operations by processing, handling, and shipping biological specimens in accordance with study protocols and laboratory requirements. The successful candidate will work closely with Clinical Research Coordinators, investigators, sponsors, and central laboratories to ensure specimen integrity, accurate documentation, and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
• Perform venipuncture and specimen collection as required by study protocols
• Process blood, urine, and other biological specimens
• Centrifuge, aliquot, package, and ship specimens to central laboratories
• Maintain laboratory equipment, calibration records, and temperature logs
• Manage laboratory inventory, supplies, and study kits
• Review laboratory manuals and protocol-specific collection requirements
• Assist with quality control activities and laboratory documentation
• Ensure compliance with GCP, IATA, OSHA, CLIA, sponsor, and site requirements
• Maintain accurate source documentation and study records
• Support research staff during study visits and sponsor monitoring visits
Qualifications
• Minimum of 3 years of laboratory experience required
• Phlebotomy experience required
• Clinical research experience preferred
• Knowledge of specimen processing, handling, packaging, and shipment procedures
• Experience maintaining laboratory equipment, temperature logs, and quality control documentation
• Strong organizational, time-management, and documentation skills
• Ability to manage multiple studies, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic systems
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with research staff, sponsors, and laboratory vendors
• Ability to lift and move laboratory shipments, study supplies, and equipment as needed
• Knowledge of GCP, IATA, OSHA, and laboratory safety standards is preferred
Preferred Qualifications
• Phlebotomy Certification or related healthcare certification
• Experience working in a clinical research environment
• Experience with central laboratory shipments and study-specific laboratory procedures
