Role Description
This is a full-time, remote role for an Automation Engineer located in, or around, Central Wisconsin. The Automation Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing automation solutions, including programming PLCs and HMIs, overseeing process control systems, and troubleshooting equipment. Day-to-day tasks include collaborating with the team, optimizing system performance, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. This role requires approximately 30% travel to customer facilities for site visits, commissioning, troubleshooting, and system support. You will play a critical role in driving operational excellence in the food and beverage industry through innovative and efficient automation systems.
Qualifications
- Strong background in process control and industrial automation, with hands-on experience designing, implementing, and supporting control systems from concept through commissioning
- Proficiency in PLC and HMI programming, including troubleshooting live production systems and working inside industrial electrical control panels
- Demonstrated experience integrating PLCs, VFDs, instrumentation, and industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, managed switches, remote I/O, etc.)
- Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills, with the ability to quickly identify root causes and restore operations in a manufacturing environment
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams, including plant maintenance, operations, OEMs, and vendors
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent hands-on industrial automation experience)
- Experience in food and beverage manufacturing—including sanitation, CIP systems, and regulatory considerations—is a strong advantage
- Hands-on experience with Rockwell Automation platforms (CompactLogix, ControlLogix, FactoryTalk View) is highly desirable
