What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Monitor position at Central School District 13J?
JOB SUMMARY:
The Bus Monitor ensures students are transported safely and securely to and from school. This position assists with loading and unloading, supports students with special needs, monitors behavior to maintain a safe environment, and reports any incidents or safety concerns to the appropriate staff. This is a 2-hour-per-day position.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assesses potential emergency situations on the bus and within loading and unloading zones.
- Assists students to accommodate special needs during transportation, safe loading and unloading from buses.
- Attends meetings to receive and convey information.
- Follows laws, district policies and procedures.
- Instructs students to enforce rules/regulations and maintain safety.
- Monitors students (e.g. unruly, disruptive, abusive language, etc) to prevent distraction to the driver or injury to themselves or other students/passengers.
- Monitors students with special needs until released to teacher, instructional assistant, parent, etc.
- Prepares documentation (e.g. incident reports, inspections, student count, passenger misconduct, mileage, etc.)
- Reports observations and/or incidents.
- Secures students and/or equipment with restraints, tie downs (e.g. wheelchairs, seat belts, etc.)
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:
- High School Diploma
- Knowledge of state and District transportation policy and procedures
- Knowledge of safety practices and emergency evacuation procedures as related to transportation.
- Ability to consistently lift 40 pounds.
- Clearance of a pre-employment drug screening.
- Clearance of a pre-employment physical
- Clearance of Criminal Justice Fingerprint and a Background check.
- CPR/First Aid Certification.
