Role Overview:
As a General Manager, you will lead a local branch operation for Central Pro Supply, a specialized distributor of irrigation, turf, drainage, lighting, outdoor living, golf & municipal, equipment, and snow management. This hands-on role involves managing daily operations and driving sales, with a goal to partner with and support contractors and landscapers to find ways to increase revenue, control costs, and reduce risk. You will lead the branch team and develop each individual branch team member with the goal of achieving operational efficiency, fully stocked inventories, accurate on-time deliveries, technical expertise, and exceptional customer service. You will be responsible for increasing revenues, margins, and supporting regional growth in the green industry.
Key Responsibilities
Lead branch team members with a supportive hands-on leadership providing constant direction, ensuring alignment with Central Pro Supply’s core values, goals, policies, and procedures.
Oversee and optimize daily branch operations, including operational efficiency, resource allocation, and process improvement to create an efficient consistently well-run operation and ensure a great customer experience.
Lead. Drive branch team development and growth through training, ongoing coaching, and performance management, to cultivate a skilled, engaged team and build a pipeline of promotable talent ready for advancement.
Analyze business needs and forecast staffing requirements. Proactively recruit, train, develop, and supervise branch staff, including Assistant Branch Manager, Counter Sales, Warehouse/Driver roles, to maintain a high-performing, fully staffed team that meets operational objectives.
Driving sales initiatives, track performance metrics and KPIs, and implementing strategies to increase revenue will impact company growth.
Analyze financials, control costs, and implement measures to improve profitability and increase margin to impact company growth.
Maintain a safe work environment, enforce health and safety protocols, ensure DOT regulatory compliance to protect our team members and the assets of the company.
Core Activities
Conduct daily branch walkthroughs to assess inventory levels, equipment and facility condition and cleanliness.
Partner with and service customers during in-branch consultation,
Oversee inventory and supply chain activities, including performing cycle counts, utilizing Phocas branch purchasing needs report and seasonal demand to reorder supplies, to ensure fully stocked inventories.
Drive performance standards, operational efficiency, compliance, fully stocked inventories, and team development; identify inefficiencies, reward successes, and provide performance feedback. Collaborate with branch team to troubleshoot and resolve operational issues.
Monitor KPIs such as sales, margin, declining customer, program sales, negative available inventory, net profit.
Utilize tools daily such as Phocas and the branch Scorecard to monitor and manage your business.
Communicate daily with team; branch scorecard, Phocas results, and a weekly branch sales meeting.
Oversee team member training programs tailored to role-specific needs.
Proactively identify team members with management potential and career advancement potential. Manage cross-training to build versatility and redundancy. Design Individual Development Plans.
Evaluate, coach, motivate all team members. Monitor performance, resolve issues and development gaps. Perform performance review for branch team members.
Develop branch team members through coaching, positive reinforcement, and feedback sessions.
Facilitate monthly category training sessions to improve team member technical knowledge.
Analyze current branch team, identify future staffing requirements, develop strategies to proactively address any potential gaps and future gaps due to career advancement and/or retirement.
Perform safety inspections and enforce polices. (e.g., thorough daily vehicle and forklift inspection -sheets filled out, daily equipment inspections, hazard reporting). Ensure compliance with DOT and with Occupational Health Regulations. Provide training on emergency procedures.
Reporting and Collaboration
Reports to: Regional Manager/ local branch Operations Manager or Area Manager. Direct reports: Assistant Branch Manager, Counter Sales, Warehouse, Driver.
