Primary Purpose
The Accompanist (Piano) serves as a rehearsal and performance accompanist for COCC Music courses and ensembles as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and perform accompaniment for designated COCC Music classes and ensemble rehearsals and concerts. The ability to sight-read moderately difficult music is expected.
- Have the ability to play individual parts, or multiple parts, from SATB choral settings during rehearsal as requested by the instructor or ensemble director.
- Rehearse with and accompany small groups or soloists as requested by the instructor or ensemble director.
- Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. The individual is expected to follow College work rules and policies.
- Advanced level accomplished pianist, preferably with experience in accompanying solo vocalists and/or vocal ensembles.
- Thorough knowledge of musical terms, signs and abbreviations as well as training in music theory, harmony, and transposition.
- The ability to perform a wide variety of musical styles including popular, semi-classical, classical, and art songs of all eras.
- Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using the English language with or without the use of an interpreter.
- Knowledge of standard office equipment and phones.
- Ability to work cooperatively and sensitively with constituents from diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives.
Ergonomic Requirements
ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to work in classroom and office environments using computers, white boards, projectors, and other basic office equipment. Classes, rehearsals, and performances may occur during standard business hours, evenings, or weekends. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Must be an accomplished pianist.
- Computer literacy: experience with email, Internet, word processing, and spreadsheets (preferably experience with MS Office Suite products).
- Experience with the Internet and internal E-Mail system (prefer knowledge of Outlook).
- Accurate arithmetic, grammar, spelling, editing and proofreading skills.
