Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Veterinary Assistant to join our veterinary team. The ideal candidate will support animal care, assist veterinarians during examinations and procedures, and ensure a clean and organized clinic environment. Responsibilities
- Assist with animal restraint during examinations, treatments, and procedures to ensure safety for both animals and staff
- Administer medications under veterinarian supervision
- Maintaining cleanliness of kennels and treatment areas
- Handle various species including dogs, and cats, utilizing animal handling skills and knowledge of animal physiology
- Perform laboratory procedures such as sample collection and processing, maintaining accurate records
- Aid in pet care activities such as feeding, walking, and monitoring behavior to promote animal well-being
- Assist front desk staff with client communication, appointment scheduling, and pet record management
- Maintain a sterile environment by practicing proper aseptic techniques during procedures such as catheterization and medication administration
- Support veterinary technicians with critical care tasks as needed
Qualifications
- Prior kennel experience or veterinary clinic experience preferred; pet care or animal handling skills highly valued
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, and physiology essential for effective assistance
- Experience with dog handling, equine care, laboratory procedures, and laboratory equipment is advantageous
- Ability to perform animal restraint safely across different species including dogs and horses
- Strong understanding of medication administration protocols and aseptic techniques
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with clients and team members
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- A genuine passion for animal welfare and commitment to providing compassionate care
