Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in English, Teaching English as a Second Language ( TESOL ), Foreign Language, and/or Bilingual/Bicultural Education. Previous experience tutoring or providing instructional assistance to English as a Second Language students. Must possess exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, demonstrate model behavior, and foster/maintain safe environment of respect and inclusion for students, staff, faculty, and other members of the community from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree and teaching experience
Summary of Duties:
This is a posting for part-time tutoring opportunities with the intent to create and maintain an ongoing applicant pool. These are temporary, part-time positions.
Summary of Duties: Support assigned English as a Second Language or foreign language students’ writing efforts either individually or in groups; offer assistance in language concepts and skills acquisition; build rapport with students learning a second language; possess knowledge of college-level composition, MLA and APA style and format, and presentation software.
Tutors may be assigned to one or more campuses: Newark, Coshocton, Mt. Vernon, and Pataskala. Tutors should have some experience with online learning/ tutoring through Zoom.
50% – Work one-on-one or in small groups to communicate course concepts, respond to questions, review notes, assist in test preparation and observe study skills. Provide resources and learning support to English Language Learners for writing and technical skills and provide open workshop opportunities for ELL students.
15% – Consult with professional staff on teaching methods for students with special needs
15% – Make referrals to other academic support personnel and additional language partnerships and resources as needed.
10% – Consult with faculty on specific course content as needed.
10% – Maintain accurate records of online and in-person tutoring sessions and workshop attendance. Assist other tutors in completing required paperwork when necessary and assist other tutors with ELL best practices. Perform independently under supervision of the Tutoring Coordinator. Other Duties as assigned.
