Central Ohio Primary Care is seeking a highly motivated healthcare attorney with at least three (3) years of healthcare legal experience to join the in-house legal department of one of the nation's largest physician-owned healthcare organizations.

The Corporate Counsel will serve as a trusted legal advisor to physicians and other healthcare providers, executives, operational leaders, and administrative staff on a broad range of legal, regulatory, compliance, employment, transactional, and risk-management matters. This position offers a unique opportunity to work closely with providers and organizational leadership and gain exposure to virtually every legal issue impacting a sophisticated physician practice.

The ideal candidate combines strong legal judgment with a practical, business-oriented approach to problem solving. Successful candidates will be collaborative, responsive, and capable of navigating complex legal and operational issues in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

The Corporate Counsel will provide legal advice on a broad spectrum of legal issues, including the following:

  • Healthcare Regulatory and Compliance Matters:
    • Advise providers, administrators, and leadership on state and federal healthcare regulatory requirements, including HIPAA and privacy laws, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, Medicare and Medicaid program requirements, and state licensure and scope-of-practice matters.
    • Partner with compliance, operational, and clinical leaders to identify and mitigate legal and regulatory risks.
    • Respond to subpoenas and assist with audits by regulatory bodies such as the Board of Pharmacy, State Medical Board of Ohio, and Ohio Board of Nursing.
  • Corporate and Operational Support
    • Serve as a day-to-day legal resource for providers, executives, and operational leaders.
    • Conduct legal research and provide clear, actionable advice on legal issues.
    • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting healthcare providers and organizations.
    • Present to providers, executives, and operational leaders on significant legal matters, regulatory developments, and organizational risk topics as needed.
    • Foster strong collaborative relationships across the organization.
  • Contracts and Transactions:
    • Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a broad range of agreements, including, vendor and supply agreements, professional services agreements, provider employment and independent contractor agreements, Business Associate Agreements, and confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements.
    • Support strategic transactions, acquisitions, affiliations, joint ventures, and other business initiatives.
    • Provide legal guidance during contract disputes and vendor relationship issues.
    • Advise on managed care or payer-related issues.
  • Employment Matters:
    • Advise management and the Human Resources Department regarding employment-related legal issues, including disciplinary actions, leave and accommodation issues, performance management, and workplace investigations.
    • Assist with employment-related claims, agency charges, and litigation management.
  • Risk Management and Patient Relations:
    • Provide practical legal guidance to minimize organizational risk while supporting operational objectives.
    • Support enterprise risk management and incident response activities.
    • Partner with clinical and operational leaders to evaluate and respond to patient complaints, grievances, and escalated concerns.
    • Respond to subpoenas and record requests.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certification/License

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials.
  • Active license to practice law in Ohio or ability to obtain Ohio licensure within a reasonable period following hire.
  • Member in good standing of the Ohio bar.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of legal experience with significant exposure to healthcare law.
  • Experience in a law firm, healthcare organization, or governmental agency.

  • Strong understanding of healthcare laws and regulations affecting providers.
  • Excellent contract drafting, negotiation, legal research, and issue-spotting skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Strong business judgment and practical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with providers and business leaders.
  • Ability to communicate complex legal concepts in a clear and actionable manner.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, discretion, and responsiveness.
  • Demonstrated initiative, intellectual curiosity, and commitment to continuous learning.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and similar software.
