What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Resource Officer position at Central Office?
REPORTS TO: SOCSD Police Chief
SUMMARY: The School Resource Officer is responsible for the safeguarding of school property against burglary, vandalism, trespassing, and other hazardous criminal or unauthorized activities as well as the maintenance of order and discipline among school students and staff. This position also conducts in-service training, on the area of expertise, as well as counseling of students and intervening with uncooperative students. The School Resource Officer’s work is performed under the direction of SOCSD’s Chief of Police.
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Patrols school property to prevent crime.
- Conducts training in area of expertise.
- Conducts criminal investigation.
- Provides counseling of students and intervention with uncooperative students.
- Ensures a safe and orderly school.
- Reports regularly and punctually to assigned work location and notifies supervisor or designee of impending absence in a timely manner.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent, Chief of Police, or Assistant Superintendents.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum three (3) years of law enforcement as a certified police officer
- Possession of a current State of Mississippi Law Enforcement Police Officer Full-time Certificate.
- High School Diploma or High School Equivalent
- Consent to a rigorous background investigation
