Payroll & HR Generalist
Winchendon Public Schools
The Payroll and HR Generalist supports both the business office and human resources departments within Winchendon Public Schools. The Generalist will assist each department in fulfilling their mission to aid the district's staff members throughout their employment life cycle.
Work Schedule:
This is a full-time, twelve-month position. The working hours shall be Monday through Friday 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, however there will be times that call upon flexibility in workday hours.
Reports to: School Business Manager

Responsibilities: The responsibilities listed below are intended as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.
Payroll
- Create new employee records in Harpers Payroll Software, including job/salary, as well as working with town treasurer's office to verify Deduction records.
- Process bi-weekly and/or miscellaneous and voided payrolls, as necessary, gathering, reviewing and entering timesheets and special pays.
- Assist in the preparation, quality review and assurance, and maintenance of Datasheets.
- Assist with the enrollment of new employees in the Massachusetts Teachers’ Retirement System (MTRS), and complete all retirement forms and reports for MTRS, Worcester County Retirement and OBRA.
- Maintain a filing system of time sheets for overtime, coverage time or additional compensation for work performed outside of contractual obligations.
- Maintain a filing system of memorandums or other instructions from the Superintendent of Schools, School Business Manager or other designated employees indicating a change or modification in salary, stipends and other forms of compensations.
- Respond to employee and building inquiries and requests for assistance on issues related to payroll matters.
Personnel
- Calculate adjustments to be made to payroll due to separations or Leaves of Absences.
- Calculating vacation/sick time buyouts for retiring employees.
- Maintain records for contract - related special pay, stipends, etc in district maintained Data Sheets as well as job/salary records.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of all payroll documents (W-4, I-9, insurance benefit applications, retirement applications, 403B authorizations, and other relevant payroll documents for new employees).
- Responsible for all new hire account creation in our attendance management system.
- Conducts the new hire processing and onboarding for all District employees.
- Process all new hire paperwork and ensure compliance with new hire requirements, including I-9.
- Completes benefits enrollment for new employees and assists existing employees with open enrollment.
- Meet and support all new hires through the onboarding process.
- Process requests from former employees for fingerprinting documentation.
- Supports the hiring and onboarding of daily substitutes and student teachers.
- Serve as a liaison for staff members, town personnel and candidates.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or School Business Manager
Starting Salary: $60,000
