TITLE: Director of Finance & Business Services

JOB GOAL: To manage and administer the business and fiscal affairs of the school system.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, business or a minimum of five years experience in governmental accounting, or a related field with emphasis on school finance and accounting is preferred, but not required.
- Minimum of seven years experience in one of the above fields, with at least three years in a supervisory capacity.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and vendors.
- Ability to supervise people effectively.
- Ability to present information to individuals and groups.
- Thorough knowledge of organization and functioning of public schools.
- Physical demands - position requires mostly sitting and standing. Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, kneeling and walking are required, with weights not normally to exceed thirty (30) pounds.

JOB DUTIES:
- Monitor and approve the collection and expenditure of funds in compliance with local, state and federal requirements.
- Develop the budget, coordinating budget implementation.
- Direct the administration of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll for all programs and services, reviewing and recommending changes in policies as necessary.
- Approve the investment of funds and checking accounts.
- Assist State Auditors in resolving problems, as necessary.
- Assist Superintendent, and Board with financial planning.
- Assist principals in budget planning and implementation, and with daily business operations of schools.
- Direct school-level bookkeepers, in conjunction with principals, to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.
- Serve on committees, and respond to requests from the Superintendent, Board, and other administrators.
- Perform administrative duties such as reviewing and signing purchase orders, preparing budget amendments, assisting in the preparation of payroll, and developing reports as requested.
- Coordinate the risk management program, implementing and maintaining appropriate insurances.
- Serve as office manager for business services personnel, organizing the department to ensure efficient and effective operations.
- Attend approved training sessions, staff development activities, and required meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Position works 230 days.
EVALUATION: Performance is evaluated in accordance with the personnel policy on classified evaluations.
