DESCRIPTION

Anticipated, Assistant Food Service Supervisor 

 

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Assistant Food Service Supervisor shall assist in all areas of cafeteria operation including the preparation of reports and the hiring, training, direction, supervision, and evaluation of the cafeteria staff throughout the school district. 

 

The Assistant Food Service Supervisor assists in planning, organizing, and directing the comprehensive child nutrition and school meal operations across all district schools.  This role ensures maximum operational efficiency, strict financial compliance, and total adherence to all local, state, and federal nutrition guidelines while fostering a safe, positive, and nutritious dining environment for students.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans, directs and coordinates the activities associated with running a large food service operation in multiple kitchens. 
  • Coordinates and prepares menus for all schools in accordance with USDA standards and regulations.
  • Orders and receives merchandise necessary for implementation of menus in all schools. 
  • Ensure the preparation and serving of all menu items, as well as clean-up and sanitation efforts related to cafeterias, serving areas, and storage areas in all schools.
  • Ensure the security and accuracy of all monies from their receipt by the Food Service Department to their deposit into the bank.
  • Develop and maintain records related to the cafeteria operation in the school district
  • Assist the Food Service Director in the recruitment of all Food Service Personnel 
  • Train new and existing cafeteria staff in areas related to the operation of theFood Service Department.
  • Assist the Food Service Director in the observation and evaluation of all food service personnel. 
  • Assist in the development of policy relevant to the Food Service Department. 
  • Assist in preparing State and Federal reports.
  • Assist in the accurate completion and timely submission of all reports to the USDA, NJ Dept. of Agriculture, NJ State Department of Education, and the Board of Education. 
  • Ensure effective operations of the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program along with accurate Child Nutrition record keeping. 
  • Perform all other duties as may be assigned by the Food Service Director. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:     

  • ServSafe Certified
  • Minimum 5 years experience managing food service operations in a K-12 setting
  • Knowledge of, and experience in, food service management including staff management and nutrition record keeping. 
  • Excellent computer skills with experience in Point of Sale Systems (POS), Microsoft and Google suites. 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition, Hospitality, or Business Administration (Preferred)
  • Ability to maintain a positive working environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills   
  • Compliance with the NJ FIRST Act
  • Successful Criminal History Clearance
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or appropriate employment authorization
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find acceptable.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:     

  • Prior Public School experience
  • Bilingual/ Multilingual

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

12 - Month Contract, Non Union Aligned position. Salary and benefits as determined by the Board of Education and any applicable and collective negotiations agreement.

 

COMPENSATION

The salary range for this position in the 26/27SY is $56,500 - $76,500. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and education.

ANNUAL EVALUATION: Performance is reviewed annually in accordance with NJ State law

and the provisions of the Board of Education policy on evaluations for certificated staff.

 

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS: Ability to be proficient in computer applications pertinent to support the position, including but not limited Google Suite,  IEP software program and Genesis Employee Portal and Student Information System.
