POSITION SUMMARY
Plans, develops, organizes, directs, supervises, and evaluates home health services and support
services; develops other services based on community needs.
Continued employment and raises in this position are dependent upon Central Montana
Medical Center's fiscal viability and:

Minimum Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification required:
BSN, Master’s Degree Preferred; Current Montana RN license; 3 years of nursing experience in
Home Health/Hospice leadership; Proven managerial skills
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES:

1 Selects, trains/orients and assigns department staff (either directly or through subordinate
supervisor). Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and initiates or
makes recommendations for personnel actions.
2 Develops department goals and objectives, and establishes and implements policies and
procedures for department operation.
3 Develops and recommends department operating budget and ensures that department
operates within budget.
4 Directs the preparation and maintenance of department report. Prepares periodic reports
for top management, as required.
5 Develops home health and hospice philosophy, priorities, program policies, and
procedures as well as the overall philosophy and plans for agency service consistent with
local needs, program plans, and the goals and philosophy of the hospital.
6 Maintains agency/program compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and
corrects any deficiencies.
7 Projects the number, type, and use of personnel for current and future needs for the
agency.
8 Organizes and allocates nursing and support staff to carry out the activities necessary to
accomplish the nursing service and program objectives.
9 Collaborates with and provides consultation to other agencies and professional groups in
identifying and meeting health and social needs of communities and stimulates
development of additional needed resources.
10 Collaborates and provides consultation to educational institutions for the purpose of
integrating home health and hospice services and public health activities and develops
strategies for the best learning opportunities for students.
MANAGEMENT
11 Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
12 Maintains department records, reports, and files as required.
13 Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and
professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
14 Participates in hospital staff committee meetings as required. Attends and serves on
professional/civic service organizations as hospital representative.
15 Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
16 Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality
assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
17 Coordinates patient care among RNs, home health aides, and independent contractors,
contacting physicians and assigning on-call activity.
18 Assists the insurance companies in case management activities.
19 Processes all paperwork and verifies bills for accuracy.
20 Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational
programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
21 Prepares work schedules assigns personnel, evaluates work performance and makes
recommendations for personnel actions.
22 Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objective, quality assurance
programs, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
23 Prepares written documentation as requested by the profession and the department.
24 Actively involved in recruitment, retention and hiring of personnel. Participates in timely
peer performance reviews and team performance evaluations.
25 Facilitates development and monitoring standards for patient care with peers and
physicians. Organizes directs, and coordinates functions and activities in assigned units.
26 Ensures adequate and accurate maintenance of patients’ medical records and that
patient records are treated as confidential information.
27 Designs and maintains awareness of ongoing Quality Assurance studies within the unit;
assists with the implementation of corrective actions determined necessary.
28 Prepares department capital equipment, statistical/FTE, and non-capital expenditure
budgets with the assistance of the CNO and CFO.
29 Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records. Maintains all
required reports, records, statistics and prepares them for meaningful interpretation based
on facility guidelines.
30 Provides leadership by listening, coaching, and educating peers in problem identification
and creative problem resolution strategies.
31 Facilitates and schedules regular unit meetings. (a minimum of ten/year)
32 Responsible for keeping staff evaluations current. Completed evaluations
sent to Human Resources before the employee’s anniversary date.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Clinical expertise sufficient to allow knowledgeable evaluation of nursing care delivery and
outcomes.
Ability to handle emergency or crisis situations.
Demonstrates clinical and interpersonal communication and leadership skills.

universal precautions apply.
Category II Activity performed without blood/bodily fluids exposure,
but exposure may occur in emergency.
