Job Summary: As a Quality Weld Inspector at Central Moloney, you're the last line of defense before a transformer tank moves down the line. You'll inspect welds on transformer tanks for weld lines and defects, correct identified issues, and spatter weld leaks before units enter the wash system. Your eye for detail and working knowledge of weld quality directly impacts the safety, integrity, and performance of every transformer we build.
What You'll Do:
- Inspect all transformer tanks in the weld shop for weld lines, defects, and non-conformities prior to the wash system
- Identify and correct weld issues including spattering weld leaks, porosity, undercut, cracking, slag inclusions, and improper weld profiles
- Perform visual weld inspections during and after the welding process, checking for size, profile, reinforcement, and overall quality conformance
- Review shop drawings and engineering documents to verify welds meet specifications and dimensional requirements
- Use weld gauges, calipers, and other measuring tools to confirm weld dimensions and tolerances
- Document inspection results, non-conformances, and corrective actions accurately and in a timely manner
- Communicate quality findings to welders, supervisors, and production teams and recommend corrective actions
- Support root cause analysis on weld defects and recurring quality issues
- Conduct audits of welding processes to ensure adherence to CMI quality standards
- Adhere to all safety protocols including PPE requirements and promote a safe working environment
- Other quality-related duties as assigned
Education and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Experience in a weld inspection or manufacturing quality role preferred
- Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and welding specifications
- Basic computer skills — familiarity with documentation systems and Microsoft Office
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify weld defects by visual inspection
- Good verbal and written communication skills to relay findings clearly to production teams
- Solid math and problem-solving skills
- AWS CWI certification a plus — not required
Physical and Environmental Requirements
- Lifting: Able to lift 50 pounds unassisted.
- Environment: Work in a facility with loud noise, extreme temperatures, and environmental stressors.
- Physical Activities: Sit, stand, walk, bend, climb, crouch, reach, and grasp as needed.
- PPE: Wear required PPE, including eye and hearing protection, gloves, and safety toe footwear.
- Dexterity and Vision: Manual dexterity and specific vision abilities (close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment).
- Stamina: Stand for long shifts.
- Skills: Effective communication, basic math skills, and teamwork.
- Safety: Adhere to safety protocols and address hazards.
