Position Summary
Maintains the cleanliness of academic, residential, and administrative campus buildings and service areas. Performs manual custodial tasks in university buildings. Ensures spaces are presentable and sanitary for employees and visitors.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
One year of work experience.
Ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment.
Ability to provide a high level of service excellence to campus customers.
Ability to effectively use technology to access e-mail and the internet.
Demonstrated ability to follow and/or interpret oral or written directions.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Ability to become an approved driver under the university’s vehicle policy.
Ability to be on-call.
Ability to lift 40 pounds.
Ability to safely use a ladder.
Ability to work in confined spaces.
Ability to work outdoors in all seasons.
Ability to work an 8-hour shift, overtime, weekends, nights, and holidays, as required.
Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of cleaning materials and methods.
One year of custodial experience.
Duties & Responsibilities
Operates and maintains mechanical cleaning, scrubbing, carpet shampooing, upholstery cleaning, and vacuum-cleaning.
Sweeps, mops, strips, and waxes floor surfaces.
Cleans and waxes furniture, cases, fixtures and furnishings.
Cleans mirrors and interior glass.
Cleans restrooms and replenishes restroom supplies.
Spot washes walls and wipes down touch points.
Sweeps, dusts, and wet-mops stairs and stairwells.
Collects and disposes of waste and biohazard materials according to protocol.
Maintains entrances and areas surrounding buildings by completing tasks including but not limited to picking up litter, cigarette butts, sweeping, shoveling snow, removing ice, spreading sand and salt.
Unclogs commodes, urinals, and sink drains without dismantling the fixture.
Reports repair work and/or damages to the building or equipment to the service center.
Replaces light bulbs and broken globes as needed.
Moves and arranges furniture and furnishings.
Washes interior and exterior windows.
Empties all trash containers and removes trash from buildings to pick- up stations.
Plans work and obtains necessary materials, equipment, and supplies.
Keeps necessary records, and develops reports, as required.
Requests supplies and equipment as necessary.
Performs other duties related to the job classification as assigned.
