Accountability Objective: The Speech and Language Pathologist Assistant is an energetic and flexible employee who is eager to work in our therapeutic day school with a high needs population. This position is accountable for providing support to students from Kindergarten through age 22 with a variety of communication disorders under the supervision of the licensed Speech and Language Pathologist through creativity, resourcefulness and sound judgment consistent with the rules and regulations of the Central Massachusetts Collaborative. Primary Responsibilities: The Speech and Language Pathology Assistant may perform the following tasks under the supervision of the licensed Speech and Language Pathologist: 1. Provide direct speech and language services for all students on IEPs as directed by the supervising SLP. 2. Implement effective learning experiences and techniques while reviewing, correcting, and reinforcing instructional lessons for communication. This includes aspects of speech production, fluency, language, cognition, voice, resonance, and hearing to enhance the learning and retention process. 3. Implement effective techniques for academic assessment and management of discipline and behavior reinforcement. 4. Provide instruction as directed by SLP and demonstrate understanding of how lessons align with student's IEP, academic level and MA Curriculum Frameworks. 5. Assist students in building communication, social, and self-regulatory skills. 6. Foster a structured, therapeutic, safe environment for all students. 7. Implement behavior intervention plans for therapy groups and individual students. 8. Address and handle students with behavioral issues. 9. Prepare students and provide support for MCAS tests and MCAS alt. 10. Assist students in all activities of daily living and communication. 11. Able to exercise universal precautions and tolerate management of body fluids, if needed. 12. Conduct screenings. 13. Write informal student updates and progress reports based on services provided. 14. Collaborate with support service providers, clinicians, and other educators. 15. Maintain data and all required documentation. 16. Support para-professionals work with speech therapy students. 17. Complete CPI/nonviolent crisis intervention training upon hire and maintain CPI/nonviolent crisis intervention certification. 18. Demonstrate sound judgments and decisions aligned with school regulations and philosophy and promote a positive school climate that fosters high student expectations and employs appropriate strategies that address multiple learning styles for all students. 19. Demonstrate good communication skills and the ability to deal with people in a professional manner in all situations. 20. Able to reach, grasp and handle objects using upper extremities and able to lift and carry objects and/or classroom equipment, up to 50 pounds. 21. Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the director.
