CENTRAL LINN SCHOOL DISTRICT POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: BUS DRIVER
DEFINITION:
Under supervision of a designated supervisor, drives a school bus in transporting students to and from school and school approved school activities. Does related work as required. A school bus driver operates a school bus in a highly skilled manner in transporting students to and from school on regular daily runs in accordance with state laws and regulations.
REPORTS TO:
Supervisor of the Transportation Department
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Classes or experience equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade and the ability to read, write and understand the English language.
2. Possession of a valid Oregon School Bus Drivers License or permit. Hold current first-aid card.
3. Criminal history clearance.
4. Preferably some experience in driving heavy motor vehicles.
5. Knowledge of: laws, rules, and regulations governing the operation of a school bus; traffic signs and devices; safe motor vehicle driving techniques; State and District rules regarding traffic safety, student discipline and passenger loading.
6. Ability to: operate a motor vehicle in a safe and lawful manner; maintain student management/
7. control while underway.
8. Be able to make clear, brief, factual written and oral reports.
9. Have a good driving record and pass a physical exam as required by Oregon State Department of Education for the issue of a School Bus Driver’s License.
10. Pass a drug test.
11. Exhibit positive and cooperative attitude; ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
1. Drive a school bus on assigned routes observing all traffic laws, rules and regulations.
2. Load and off-load students at specific stops on an established time schedule.
3. Check vehicle before each trip to determine possible deficiencies in signals, lights, wipers, mirrors, brakes, gas and oil.
4. Report mechanical difficulties to supervisor.
5. Record gas, oil and mileage readings.
6. Keep vehicle clean inside and out.
7. Drive bus on special trips outside the district.
8. Maintain discipline on bus and report appropriate discipline problems.
9. Manage student outbursts or general misbehavior in a mature and effective manner.
10. Use good judgement in driving in varying weather and traffic conditions on all types of roads.
11. Maintain minimum number of classroom training hours as required by the State.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated at least annually by the Supervisor of the Transportation Department.

Ability to drive a large vehicle requiring hours behind the wheel.
Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
Ability to see for the purpose of driving large passenger vehicles, noting road conditions, traffic, movement, reading laws and codes, rules and policies and other printed matter.
Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels as well as traffic or warning sounds.
Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand directions or normal conversation.
Ability to bend and twist, stoop and kneel.
Ability to lift lbs.
Ability to carry lbs.
Ability to drag lbs.
Ability to reach in all directions, including mechanical door openers.
Ability to depress brake and clutch pedals.

Pay: $21.84 - $35.67 per hour
Expected hours: 20.0 – 30.0 per week
