Job Title: Staff Spanish Interpreter at Central Kentucky Interpreter Referral, Inc.
Employment Type: Full-Time Location: Danville, KY (Base of Operations)
We are seeking a skilled and professional Staff Spanish Interpreter to provide accurate, confidential, and culturally sensitive interpretation services for Spanish-speaking clients. The interpreter will facilitate clear communication in a variety of settings, ensuring equitable access.
- Provide accurate interpretation between English and Spanish in meetings, appointments, medical appointments, interviews, trainings, events, etc.
- Interpret in-person, by phone, and via video remote platforms as needed
- Maintain strict confidentiality
- Demonstrate cultural competency and professionalism in all interactions
- Assist with sight translation of basic documents when necessary
- Collaborate with staff to ensure effective communication and understanding
- Maintain accurate records of interpretation services provided
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development
Required:
- Fluency in spoken English and Spanish (native or near-native proficiency in both)
- Experience as a professional interpreter is preferred
- Strong knowledge of interpreter ethics and standards of practice
- Ability to work effectively in high-pressure or sensitive situations
- High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred:
- Certification from a recognized credentialing body such as the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) or the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI)
- Experience in healthcare, legal, educational, or social service settings
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in interpreting, linguistics, or a related field
- Cultural sensitivity and awareness
- Professional integrity and confidentiality
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Reliability and punctuality
- Ability to maintain neutrality and accuracy
- Prolonged periods of active listening and speaking
- Travel between service locations
