At Special School District (SSD), School Bus Technicians help ensure students travel safely each day by maintaining the vehicles that transport them. In this role, you will inspect, repair, and service District buses and vehicles, performing everything from preventive maintenance to complex diagnostics and repairs on engines, brakes, steering, and electrical systems. You will also complete state inspections, respond to road service calls, and document all work to meet district, state, and federal requirements.
You will collaborate with other team members, use a range of tools and shop equipment, and follow safety procedures that keep our fleet running reliably. By keeping our buses road-ready, you help SSD carry out its mission of empowering students to excel to their greatest potential.
Bus Technicians work Monday through Friday, 9:30 AM to 6 PM at 5500 N. Hanley, St. Louis, MO 63134.

Salary
- $25 - $30/hr, based on experience
Experience & Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- State Vehicle Inspector certification required (must obtain within 6 months of employment)
- Overall general knowledge of diesel engines, brakes, and transmission required
- Valid Class B CDL (commercial driver's license) preferred (must obtain within 6 months of employment)
- School Bus ASE certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years experience as a mechanic or school bus maintenance preferred
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Missouri State Inspector's License required (must obtain within 6 months of employment)
- Missouri Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a passenger endorsement preferred (must obtain within 6 months of employment)
