Role Description The Forklift Mechanic is a full-time, on the road based in Piscataway, NJ. This position is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of forklifts and related material handling equipment. Daily tasks include performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues, ordering or requesting necessary parts, and completing accurate service records. The role also involves collaborating with the service team, communicating clearly with supervisors and customers about equipment status and repair timelines, and adhering to all safety procedures and company policies. The Forklift Mechanic is expected to keep the work area organized, use tools and diagnostic equipment properly, and support continuous improvement in service efficiency and quality.
Qualifications
- Strong mechanical aptitude, with experience repairing or maintaining industrial equipment, automotive systems, or forklifts.
- Ability to diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices, safety standards, and basic OSHA requirements for shop and warehouse environments.
- Effective communication skills to explain technical issues, document work performed, and collaborate with team members and supervisors.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, work orders, and part diagrams, and to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Physical capability to lift moderate to heavy loads, stand for extended periods, and work in various shop and warehouse conditions.
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in diesel, automotive, or industrial equipment repair is preferred.
- Previous experience as a forklift mechanic, heavy equipment technician, or similar role is highly beneficial.
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record, with willingness to comply with company safety and attendance policies.
