Laboratory Operations Assistant
About the Role
We are an environmental testing laboratory serving drinking water and wastewater utilities throughout Central Florida. Our laboratory plays an important role in protecting public health by providing accurate analytical testing and regulatory reporting.
We’re looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Laboratory Operations Assistant to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in laboratory operations, even without prior lab experience. We provide full training—no college degree required.
This position offers hands-on experience in environmental laboratory operations and provides opportunities to develop skills in laboratory testing, scientific documentation, and regulatory compliance with DEP requirements.
Because our laboratory data is used for regulatory compliance and public health decisions, accuracy and attention to detail are essential in every aspect of this position. Our ideal applicant is someone who enjoys organized work, follows procedures carefully, notices small details, and takes pride in accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
· Sample & Data Management
o Receive and log environmental samples into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
o Verify sample information for completeness and accuracy
o Enter laboratory test results into LIMS
- Assist with preparation of laboratory reports
- Customer Service - Assist clients with sample submissions, questions, and general support
- Work around common laboratory chemicals using appropriate PPE
- Prepare laboratory media and basic reagents
- Clean and maintain glassware and help maintain an organized workspace
- Perform routine environmental laboratory analyses under the supervision of experienced laboratory personnel
- Light office cleaning and organization
Balance of Duties
· Sample login and data entry (majority of the position)
· Courteous customer service and phone support
· Cleaning, media preparation, and laboratory support
· Routine laboratory testing after training
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Ability to follow written procedures and maintain documentation
- Willingness to learn and take on new tasks
- Comfortable using computers and learning new software
- Accurate data entry and typing skills
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks
- Pass background check and drug screening
Preferred (but not required)
- Prior experience in a laboratory or administrative setting
- Prior knowledge of basic chemistry and lab safety
- Familiarity with LIMS
Schedule
- Monday–Friday
- Limited weekend work as needed
- Occasional overtime during busy periods
