Job Summary
The Patient Support Specialist provides essential support to patients, families, and clinicians. This includes front desk operations, assisting with audiology and speech-language appointments, and ensuring a smooth and welcoming experience for all visitors. Fluency in Spanish is a core requirement, as this role involves frequent in-person and phone-based interpretation for Spanish-speaking patients.
This position requires excellent communication, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively with children, adults, and families in a dynamic clinical environment.
Duties
- Spanish Interpretation (Primary Function)
- Deliver accurate, professional Spanish–English interpretation during check-in, clinical appointments, and phone interactions.
Front Desk & Administrative Duties
- Greet patients and visitors with professionalism and warmth.
- Manage patient check-in/check-out and maintain patient flow.
- Answer and route phone calls; schedule, confirm, and reschedule appointments.
- Assist patients with completing required forms and updating demographics.
- Process payments and co-pays
- Complete general administrative tasks including scanning, copying, and data entry.
- Provide assistance to families and children during the appointment process.
- Share follow-up instructions, reminders, and educational materials as directed.
- Assist audiologists during patient visit, to include assisting with pediatrics for patients with Spanish-speaking families.
Qualifications
- Bilingual: fluent in English and Spanish (spoken and written).
- Experience in a healthcare front desk, customer service, or patient services role preferred.
- Strong communication, multitasking, and organizational skills.
- Comfortable working with children and families in a clinical environment.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-centered setting.
- Basic computer proficiency; training on practice software will be provided.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to assist with light physical tasks such as room preparation or guiding patients.
- Must be able to communicate clearly in English and Spanish.
Work Environment
- Outpatient clinical setting with frequent interaction with children, families, and clinicians.
- Requires professionalism, flexibility, and a patient-centered approach.
- Assist Spanish-speaking patients in understanding paperwork, consent forms, and appointment instructions.
- Facilitate effective communication between clinicians and Spanish-speaking families.
