TITLE: TEACHER/ACADEMIC COORDINATOR

Reports to: School Director

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Provides instruction using research-based practices and strategies to a diverse population of students.

Organizes and communicates class objectives and requirements for achievement.

Ensures appropriate measures are in effect for special needs students.

Administers assessments and creates individualized academic goals for each student.

Provides small group, intensive instruction for each student.

Assists teachers in implementing teaching strategies and activities and selecting appropriate materials.

Assists teachers in locating appropriate professional development opportunities.

Organizes curriculum planning and mapping.

Identifies and determines appropriate course of action necessary for the resolution of students’

academic issues and concerns.

Refers advanced disciplinary issues to the school director.

Performs related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to understand, follow and instruct written and oral instructions.

Ability to effectively supervise and provide guidance to classroom assistants/aids.

Ability to effectively teach and supervise students engaged in classroom activities.

Knowledge of business English, spelling, and basic math.

Communicating information both verbally and in writing.

Ability to perform routine typing and basic computer skills.

Effectively collaborate with other staff members such as therapists, teachers, and assistants.

Ability to perform duties with a professional work ethic and maintain confidentiality.

Ability to reach, bend, kneel, sit and stand for long periods of time; walk; lift up to 25

pounds.

Knowledge of basic work policies and guidelines.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree and a demonstrated aptitude for working with children with special needs.

Must possess and maintain current Teaching Certification. Master’s degree in Exceptional Student Education or related field is preferred.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $48,500.00 per year
