Job Title: Direct Support Professional (DSP)
Department: The Friendship Place – Life Skills Development Program
Location: Clermont, Florida
Employment Type: Full-Time or Part-Time
Reports To: Program Director
Position Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) supports adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities in the Life Skills Development Program at The Friendship Place at Central Florida Dreamplex. This role focuses on promoting independence, confidence, and meaningful engagement through structured activities, community involvement, and individualized support.
DSPs play a critical role in creating a safe, respectful, and positive environment where participants can build friendships, develop life skills, and participate in enriching daily experiences.
Position Types
Full-Time: 30–35 hours per week
Part-Time: 12–18 hours per week
Essential Responsibilities
Participant Support
- Support adults with developmental disabilities in daily program activities
- Encourage independence and decision-making
- Assist participants with social engagement and relationship building
- Provide positive guidance and behavioral support when needed
Program Activities
- Assist in facilitating structured activities such as:
- Arts and crafts
- Fitness and recreation
- Drama and creative expression
- Life skills training
- Community outings
- Help prepare materials and maintain organized activity areas
Personal Care Support
- Assist participants with personal care or hygiene when necessary
- Follow dignity-centered support practices
Safety and Supervision
- Maintain a safe and respectful environment
- Supervise participants during activities and outings
- Follow all program safety protocols and reporting procedures
Documentation & Communication
- Communicate participant needs or concerns to program leadership
- Assist with basic program documentation when required
- Maintain professional communication with staff, participants, and families
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred but not required
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- A valid driver’s license preferred
- Ability to pass background screening in accordance with state requirements
