Position Overview:
To make content comprehensible and meaningful to Multilingual Learners and give students access to educational opportunities to increase academic achievement. To accelerate the English language development (ELD) skills of students at WIDA English language proficiency levels 1.0 - 4.7 so that all learners attain an overall score of 4.8 on ACCESS for ELLs 2.0. The MLL coach will support language teachers through instructional-focused, data-driven support that will lead to the academic achievement and language advancement of the Multilingual Learners within the district. Through ongoing, collaborative, and job-embedded professional learning, teachers will increase their skill and practices to lead more effective instruction to MLLs.
General Responsibilities:
Coaching Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following with all department colleagues:
Provide ongoing support to teachers through observations, 1:1 or small group coaching grounded in English language development
Co-planning and collaboration with teachers to design standards-based lessons and assessments aligned to the district curriculum
Work with teachers to utilize high-quality instructional strategies to teach content and language skills simultaneously
Design and deliver training for teachers on best practices for MLL teachers by leading/facilitating CPT, PLCs, PD and/or providing feedback to teachers through coaching.
Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders to provide coherent, differentiated, and targeted ELD support
Conducting observations with formative assessment tools and providing feedback to drive improvement
Create coaching schedules and manage a coaching caseload
Developing and utilizing coaching agendas and plans to document teacher focus areas, action steps, and progress
Maintaining a weekly coaching log to document the frequency and type of coaching that has occurred
Work with professional development consultants and district/school administrators by:
Meeting monthly to develop facilitation skills, identify and prioritize problems of practice
Model coaching practices by having them join you to provide feedback
Working with the MLL Director, administrators, and/or coaches to provide job-embedded professional learning for teachers
Providing coherent, differentiated, and targeted support
Serves as the school ACCESS, Alternate ACCESS, and TELL Test Coordinator in collaboration with the school test coordinator, administration, etc., to ensure that all MLLs are assessed the MLLs’ language proficiency and academic needs.
Collaborate with the test coordinator, administration, etc., on other local and state assessments to ensure MLLs are receiving appropriate testing accommodations and/or supports.
Collaborate with all colleagues to support teachers through, but not limited to, the following responsibilities:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student MLL services and programs, ELD goals, EL Progress Monitoring Forms, and testing accommodations within ELLevation.
Participate in MTSS and data review meetings.
Provide targeted instructional support and interventions to help students achieve their academic goals, ensuring accommodations and modifications are implemented in accordance with IEPs, 504 plans, and ELD plans across various learning environments.
Assist teachers in effectively utilizing district-approved curricula, instructional materials, and the WIDA 2020 standards to guide ELD and core curriculum instruction and assessment.
Teach one period of ELD during the school day.
Other duties as determined by the Director of MLLs and/or School Principal or designee.
