Qualifications:

Required qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. degree (or equivalent), be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 2 years post-J.D. (or equivalent) legal or other relevant experience. Possess superior oral and written communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills, exhibit good judgment, and function with minimal guidance in a highly demanding environment.

Preferred Qualifications: Strong academic credentials and advocacy skills, superior legal research and writing skills, an ability to accurately and precisely articulate case-related issues, outstanding interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated ability to work in a supportive and professional environment with all members of the office, client agencies, and others, and possess sound legal and ethical judgment.

United States citizenship is required.

You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.

All initial attorney positions to the Department of Justice are made on a 14-month (temporary) basis. This position may be extended or made permanent without further competition.

Responsibilities:

The United States Attorney's Office for the Central District of Illinois (CDIL) is seeking to fill two Assistant United States Attorneys positions (AUSAs), one in the Moline, IL office and one in the Peoria, IL office. Both positions are in the criminal division. The selected candidates will be involved in the investigation and prosecution of a wide variety of federal criminal cases, including violent crime, crimes against children, immigration, human trafficking, drugs, national security, firearms trafficking, and white collar crime. AUSAs work in cooperation with their colleagues, as well as federal, state, and local law enforcement officials.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Security Requirements: Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.

Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district-specific information.
