Head HS Cheerleading Coach

Central DeWitt Community School District in DeWitt, Iowa, is seeking a HS Cheerleading Head Coach for 2026/2027.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

1. Must hold a valid Iowa Coaching Authorization or Iowa Teaching License with Coaching Endorsement.
2. Has the ability to help organize and supervise a total sports program.
3. Some previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport, preferred. (Major sports)
4. Must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through his/her instructions and actions. 

JOB GOAL
To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the coach must instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self discipline, self confidence, and pride of accomplishment in the student athletes.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Sport Duties

1. Has a thorough knowledge of all the athletic policies approved by the Central DeWitt Community Schools' Board of Education.
2. Has knowledge of existing system, state and league regulations.
3. Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all requests or grievances through proper channels. Is aware of all public/staff/departmental meetings that require attendance.
4. Maintains a safe environment and facilities for student athletes at all times.
5. Develops appropriate practice plans and schedules.
6. Travels with student athletes both to and from away games.
7. Maintains proper paperwork and documentation.
8. Works with the athletic director to ensure athletic eligibility.
9. Ensures that medical and safety requirements are adhered to.
10. Must demonstrate the ability to teach and coach young people in the fundamentals and techniques.
11. Must demonstrate the appropriate competitive drive to develop and maintain a strong program.
12. Must demonstrate desire to constantly improve the program and overall sports program at Central DeWitt Community School District.
13. Must demonstrate ability to motivate student-athletes to be the best they can be on the field and in the classroom.
14. Must demonstrate ability to communicate with all stakeholders including but not limited to administration, staff, students, and booster club.
15. Must provide adequate supervision before, during and after practices/games.
16. Monitors equipment rooms and coaches' offices, authorizes who may enter, issue or requisition equipment.
17. Permits athletes to only be in authorized areas of the building at the appropriate times.
18. Instills in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use.
19. Performs such other duties which may be assigned by the athletic director or principal

School Duties

1. Must lead by example demonstrating high character and solid moral background.
2. Must promote other programs at Central DeWitt High School and encourage student athletes to participate in other activities.
3. Good Attendance and punctuality are a must to ensure that the duties and responsibilities of the job are performed successfully.
4. Successful candidate must possess strong inter-personal skills with a proven record of building rapport with students to ensure each child reaches his//her full potential.

 
Physical Requirements of Position

1. Sit, stand, speak, hear, see and walk to carry out routine duties.
2. Must be able to occasionally life, move, or push items of 50 pounds; such as assisting children or moving/rearranging equipment.
3. Must be able to supervise students in all types of weather.
4. Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

Work Environment

1. Noise level is quiet to loud.
2. Work may be indoors and/or outdoors.
3. Work may be in non-air-conditioned rooms.
4. Substance-free environment.
5. Fast-paced atmosphere with constant contact with students, staff, or the public.
6. Direct responsibility for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.
