The Lakewood-Trumbull Y is seeking a dedicated Child Watch Attendant. This position supports the mission and work of the Y by providing attentive, short-term supervision of children while parents/guardians use YMCA programs and facilities. Creates a welcoming, inclusive environment; maintains active, visual supervision; and upholds YMCA policies, health/safety practices, and confidentiality standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Model the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility with children, families, and staff.
- Provide constant, alert supervision; maintain appropriate ratios; and ensure children remain within approved spaces and activities.
- Manage check-in/out, verify authorized pick-ups, and maintain accurate attendance and incident/accident documentation.
- Keep program areas and equipment clean, organized, and safe; set up and put away materials as directed.
- Deliver friendly, professional service; answer questions and connect families to YMCA programs and resources.
- Follow YMCA policies, emergency procedures, and mandated reporting/abuse-prevention protocols (including Rule of Three).
- Attend required meetings and trainings and maintain required certifications.
Availability Requirement:
This position requires availability for shifts from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
- Desire and ability to work with children; prior child-facing experience preferred.
- Friendly, patient, and safety-conscious; able to remain calm and objective under pressure and when addressing behavior.
- Effective communicator; organized and attentive to detail and confidentiality.
- Completion of required YMCA trainings at hire (New Employee Orientation, Child Abuse Prevention, Mandated Reporter, Bloodborne Pathogens, Employee Safety/Hazard Communication); CPR/AED/First Aid prior to assignment; Emergency Oxygen within Association timeframe.
The Child Watch Attendant plays a critical role in supporting the Y’s mission by providing exceptional care for children in a safe and welcoming environment. This part-time, nonexempt position offers flexible scheduling and opportunities for professional growth within a supportive, community-focused organization. Provides attentive, short-term childcare while parents/guardians utilize YMCA services.
