Position Title: Utility / Set Up Person
Department: Operations - 2nd Shift Training on 1st Shift
Reports To: Supervisor / Production Manager
Position Summary
The Utility / Set Up Person is responsible for supporting all machine operations through material handling, staging, and setup activities to ensure production efficiency and product quality. This position requires accurate execution of set-up procedures, proper handling of rolls and pallets, and adherence to quality, food safety, and safety standards. Cross training in related operational areas and ERP system transactions are required to support workflow flexibility, continuous improvement, and operational coverage.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist in roll staging, loading, threading, full pallet removal, pallet inspection, placement, and wrapping as needed.
- Maintain pallet availability, including shroud and Food Tools pallets.
- Manage staging areas to ensure proper organization, housekeeping, and compliance with safety standards.
- Prepare casing lines for straight case jobs.
- Gather materials for samples, unwrap rolls, replenish empty pallets, liners, and headers.
- Stage folders and cases at interfold lines.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Follow all food safety, hygiene, housekeeping, operational, and conduct guidelines as outlined in CCP work instructions, quality manual, and employee handbook.
- Perform substitute duties in areas where cross-training has been completed.
- Accurately perform ERP system transactions related to material movements and inventory tracking.
- Support team members to maintain production flow and meet daily output goals.
- All Utility / Set Up Persons are required to cross-train in related operational areas to ensure coverage during absences, balance workload, and support career development.
- All other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic math calculations.
- Minimum of 2 years of manufacturing experience preferred (or as approved by management).
- Knowledge of product flow within operational areas.
- Capability to lift and reposition up to 135 lbs. multiple times per day.
- Demonstrated commitment to housekeeping, food safety, quality, and productivity.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing facility with exposure to moving machinery, moderate noise, and occasional dust or paper particles.
- Climate can vary depending on seasonal and production conditions.
- PPE (personal protective equipment) such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and protective footwear must be worn at all times in production areas.
Physical Requirements
- Stand and walk for extended periods (up to 12 hours per shift).
- Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 135 lbs. multiple times per day with proper assistance.
- Frequent bending, twisting, and reaching.
- Ability to operate hand tools and material handling equipment safely.
