Lifeguard I

POSITION SUMMARY

Keeps the pool and surrounding area safe and appropriately responds to emergencies that may occur. Responsible for maintaining various aspects of the pool area in order, including the office, equipment room and deck. Presents a positive, enthusiastic and caring attitude to a diversified population of members and staff. Knows and exhibits the YMCA mission through programs that strive for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Demonstrates the ability to exercise mature judgment and tact, and can work well with members, staff, and volunteers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum 16 years of age.

Current Y-approved CPR/AED/First Aid

Current and valid work permit

Demonstrates customer service skills

Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.

Must demonstrate lifeguard skills by YMCA standards.

Reliable transportation to work

WORK ENVIRONMENT/MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• You must have physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. You must maintain the level of physical and mental readiness required for certification.

• This position regularly requires the ability to stand or sit for several hours at a time, maintaining alertness. This position may require bending, leaning and kneeling on an occasional basis. This position may also require light physical activity, such as filing. Must be able to lift swimmers of various sizes and weights, following lifeguard certification guidelines, when responding to emergencies.

• Fingerprints will be taken upon commencement of employment or when employee becomes 18 years of age and will be submitted to the Association Office human resources department before beginning the first day of work/age 18. Employees may be rechecked every two years
