What are the responsibilities and job description for the Weatherization Technician position at Central Coast Energy Services?
Weatherization Technicians are part of teams of individuals responsible for installing weatherization and energy efficiency measures in low income households across the Bay Area. Our programs help reduce energy costs and help improve the health and safety of those in need.
We're looking for people who are comfortable working with their hands, and have at least some basic familiarity with hand and power tools. Technicians implement many building trade skills (carpentry, electrical, plumbing) and diagnostic testing (duct leakage, shell leakage, combustion safety) to retrofit existing homes with energy efficiency upgrades. Writing and math skills are also important to this job.

General Duties and Responsibilities: Weatherization Technicians perform building maintenance and repair work, assists with the completion of construction projects, and maintains neat and accurate work documentation. This position is responsible for performing a wide variety of maintenance, repair, and construction tasks as the semiskilled and skilled level.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities: Duties may include, but are not limited to, safe and proper completion of a wide variety of maintenance, repair, and construction projects as listed below:
- Building maintenance and repairs, and installation of energy conservation measures.
- Weatherstripping of doors and windows.
- Installation of attic and sub-floor insulation.
- Window and door repair and replacement.
- Appliance installation.
- Installation of lighting and water reduction measures.
- Safe operation of hand tools, power tools, vehicles and diagnostic equipment.
- Clean and maintain shop, office and vehicles as required.
Requirements:
- Good English skills, written and verbal.
- Must possess valid CA driver's license with clean driving record.
- Minimum of entry level familiarity with hand and power tool use.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Work environment is usually moderate to high noise. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
- Physical demands include standing, walking on uneven ground, bending, squatting, twisting, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Work may involve confined spaces, strong odors, dust, or exposure to chemicals within legal limits.
- Work may occur at heights of 15–20 feet above the ground.
- Vision requirements: close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Licenses:
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
