Position Summary
Central Co-op’s Produce department is at the heart of our desire to provide fresh, healthy food to all, and is the aesthetic centerpiece of our store! The Produce Clerk is responsible for ensuring our department shines through the preparation, stocking, and display of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as collaborating with all store departments to provide an outstanding customer experience for shoppers.
Reports to: Produce Department Coordinator
FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt, UFCW 3000 position
Hours: Full Time
Position Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the Produce Clerk is to create an exemplary shopping environment for customers through friendly, knowledgeable service and a well-stocked, beautiful department. Preference will be given to applicants with significant experience in Produce department operations.
This includes, but is not limited to:
● Receiving, trimming, cleaning, stocking, rotating, and facing produce, as well as attentively removing culls, per department procedure
● Delivering and modeling phenomenal customer service at all times
● Staying current with knowledge about available year-round and seasonal produce varieties
● Engaging with customers by answering questions, making recommendations, offering samples when possible, etc.
● Maintaining the cleanliness of display areas on the sales floor and backstock areas, including coolers
● Upholding company policies for safe food handling, cleanliness, and sanitation
● Assisting other departments as necessary
Position Qualifications
• A desire to provide and prioritize an outstanding customer experience
• Ability to accurately, efficiently and safely prepare Produce items for display
• Ability to follow directions precisely and prioritize work tasks independently
• A passion for fresh foods, and the ability to build and share a robust knowledge base about department offerings
• Proven ability to effectively listen and communicate with customers and co-workers
• Prior experience in retail grocery, produce, or natural foods
• Flexibility in scheduling, and the capacity to work evenings and weekends
Physical Demands
• Required frequently: lifting up to 50 lbs
• Required frequently: Working in cool, cold and wet environments, walking, standing, lifting and grasping above the shoulders, kneeling, squatting, bending, reaching, and repetitive wrist movement and fine hand manipulation when trimming and cutting produce.
• Required frequently: Using hand trucks, carts, and step stools to stock product, as well as box cutters and knives.
Salary : $21 - $26
