Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Safety Manager with a strong background in civil construction to lead and enhance our company-wide safety program. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining safety policies, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting a proactive safety culture across all operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and programs across all operations
- Identify, coordinate, and support safety training initiatives for all employees
- Implement programs to reduce accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to hazards
- Conduct safety inspections, audits, and ensure compliance with OSHA and regulatory requirements
- Oversee accident investigations, workers’ compensation claims, and reporting procedures
- Analyze incident trends, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions
- Maintain safety records, logs, and reporting systems to reduce risk and control costs
- Develop and implement emergency preparedness, environmental, and security procedures
- Coordinate with legal counsel and insurance carriers on accident investigations and claims
- Communicate regularly with employees, leadership, and external agencies regarding safety matters
- Ensure all employees maintain required certifications and training compliance
- Act as the company expert on OSHA compliance and evolving regulations
- Promote and reinforce a strong, consistent safety culture across all departments
- Oversee safety audits conducted by internal teams and external regulatory agencies
- Ensure availability and proper use of PPE and safety equipment
- Travel regularly to job sites to monitor and support safety initiatives
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field with 5 years of construction safety experience OR
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive construction safety experience in lieu of a degree
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations (OSHA 500 Certification required)
- Experience in civil construction and trucking operations preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to present to large groups and influence a positive safety culture
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- High level of professionalism and confidentiality
