Position Summary:
Reporting to the Athletic Director, the Head Women’s Basketball Coach is committed to educating and mentoring student-athletes from diverse backgrounds in a Catholic community. The Head Women’s Basketball Coach plays a vital role in shaping the character and virtues of student-athletes, including faith, responsibility, honesty, integrity, and courage. The coach is expected to develop leaders, foster teamwork, and model outstanding sportsmanship for athletes and the broader school community while promoting strong academic habits, ethical behavior, and good citizenship.
Central Catholic’s Women’s Basketball program has a strong tradition and commitment to excellence. The head coach will cultivate a program that promotes competitive excellence, providing leadership, vision, and direction. The ideal candidate will bring strong, positive communication, educational, and strategic skills; deep basketball knowledge (preferably women’s basketball); and a passion for developing young people as whole persons—mind, body, and spirit.
Essential Job Functions (including but not limited to):
- Lead the vision, culture, and operations of the women’s basketball program across all levels (Varsity, JV, JVII)
- In partnership with the Athletics Department, oversee game preparation, practice schedules, off season training, summer camps, and game management.
- Provide instruction that promotes moral values, a strong work ethic, faith, responsibility, teamwork, sportsmanship, self-discipline, leadership, and confidence.
- Develop and support student-athletes in pursuing collegiate-level competition, including building relationships with college programs and coaches, guiding recruitment, and assisting with exposure.
- Ensure strong connections with and commitment to youth basketball programs, grade school school partners, and local communities.
- Instruct student-athletes in fundamental basketball skills, game strategy, and physical conditioning necessary to achieve individual and team success.
- Represent Central Catholic High School and its mission within the broader community.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with the Athletic Director to schedule all practices, games, and team travel.
- Recruit, mentor, and support coaching staff; ensure alignment and consistency across all program levels.
- Supervise all varsity practices, games, and team events.
- Communicate clearly with athletes and families by establishing team policies and procedures, including expectations, schedules, and program communication.
- Organize and lead a pre-season meeting for parents, players, and coaches.
- Attend all required meetings, complete required training, and submit necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
- Participate in the program budget process with the Athletic Director.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of all school, conference, and OSAA policies and ensure program compliance.
- Oversee program operations, including equipment, uniforms, inventory, ordering, collection, and storage.
- Maintain discipline while fostering morale, unity, and a strong team culture within the program and school community.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with parents, media, alumni, and community supporters.
- Collaborate with the athletic trainer and strength and conditioning staff to support athlete health and development.
- Provide regular updates to the Athletic Director regarding program highlights, needs, and concerns.
- Coordinate and plan a post-season awards event.
- Support and monitor the academic progress and well-being of all student-athletes.
- Contribute to off-season programming, including open gyms, camps, and player development opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of three-to-five years as head coach or as an assistant coach at the high school or collegiate level.
- Demonstrated experience building or contributing to a successful program with an emphasis on character development.
- Strong organizational, leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of the technical aspects of basketball and a commitment to ongoing professional growth.
- Commitment to Central Catholic’s vision, mission, and values.
- Ability to mentor assistant coaches and develop student-athletes holistically.
- ASEP/NFHS coaching certifications (may be completed after hire).
- Ability to meet all Archdiocesan requirements, including training, certifications, and background checks.
- Preference given to candidates qualified to hold a full-time, on-campus position.

The person employed for this position must be able to verify identity and employment authorization, complete a background check, and complete a fingerprint check.
Other Details:
- Compensation: Commensurate with experience
- Start Date: Preliminary work will begin immediately with off-season planning and coordination with the Athletic Director
- Season: Winter season (November–March), with expectations for summer programming and off-season development
