Melbourne Central Catholic seeks a Head Coach for our volleyball team. The position often involves coordinating, training, supervising, or managing the activities of others to accomplish goals and requires advanced communication and organizational skills, attention to detail and working well with others. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, co-workers, and supervisors, via face-to-face discussions, telephone communications, and electronic mail is essential.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Know and follow the rules of the Florida High School Athletic Association and guide the program within the mission, philosophy, and goals of Melbourne Central Catholic High School.
  • Hire and supervise a staff in collaboration with the Assistant Principal of Athletics and Principal
  • Communicate appropriately and respectfully with parents, teachers, coaches, and school stakeholders, and escalate issues as necessary in collaboration with the Assistant Principal of Athletics and Principal.
  • Communicate in a timely manner with the Assistant Principal of Athletics and Principal regarding student athlete eligibility and works collaboratively to ensure only eligible student athletes participate.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Principal of Athletics and Principal to handle any concerns regarding coaches, players, or the athletic program.
  • Create practice and contest schedules and coordinate facilities and transportation needs appropriately and in a timely manner in collaboration with the Assistant Principal of Athletics and Principal.
  • Coordinate and supervise all practices, competitions, and other team events
  • Organize staffing and work with team parents and volunteers to sell tickets and operate the concession stand during home contests.
  • Organize staffing and work with team parents and volunteers to operate scoreboards and other essential contest-related resources and equipment during home contests.
  • Travel with the team to all away events and supervise activities while on the road
  • Responsible for equipment including uniforms (inventory and storage).
  • Supervise the proper and respectful use and storage of team equipment and collaborate with the Assistant Principal of Athletics about any equipment needs and/or concerns.
  • Keep accurate records of all team inventories.
  • Track team budget in collaboration with the Assistant Principal of Athletics and President and maintain team needs and expenses within that budget.
  • Maintain a record of all team participants, contest records, and award winners.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Principal of Athletics and communications team to release important team-related news. 
  • Oversee and manage all aspects of the Junior Varsity level of the program. 
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Principal of Athletics or Principal.

Requirements

  

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Compliance with Diocesan FBI fingerprint clearance and compliance with Safe Environment training and test requirements.
  • Extensive knowledge of the sport at the competition level.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and the management of large groups of students/athletes
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the fundamental skills and techniques, as well as the advanced techniques in the sport.
  • Demonstrate successful ability to teach, implement, advance, and model appropriate behavior, character traits, educational values, and school and Diocesan core values to student athletes.
  • Demonstrate successful ability to teach, organize, and supervise student athletes
  • Demonstrate successful management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate successful ability to work with parent groups, administrators, staff, and students.
  • Ability to organize and supervise multiple athletic events. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, appropriately, and professionally in writing, speech, and other forms of interaction.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to lift at least 25 pounds. Physical demands include balancing, carrying, crouching, feeling, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, sitting, standing, reaching, stooping, talking, and walking. Also includes the ability to see items up close. The school may make reasonable accommodations to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
