FLSA Status: Full-Time, Benefit Eligible

Days/Hours: Scheduled 40 hours per week; Tuesday - Saturday evening shifts (start time will vary between 11 am and 2 pm)

Rate of Pay: $19.50/hour

Reports to: Component Manufacturing Manager

Location: Fresno, CA


Job Summary:

The Laboratory Component Technician prepares components from whole blood collections.


  Essential Responsibilities


· Component preparation, including quality control and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs)

· Boxing of plasma and other products for manufacturing

· Perform and document Preventive Maintenance on all equipment used for component preparation

· Troubleshoot problems associated with component preparation or instrumentation

· Perform special procedures such as washing of units, freezing, and deglycerolization

· Contribute to review and update of Component SOP’s, training forms and records, and component worksheets and forms

· Demonstrates alignment with and adherence to the company’s core values in all interactions, decisions, and work activities; serves as a role model for fostering a positive, respectful, and ethical workplace culture 

· Employees in this role are entitled and expected to take compliant meal and rest periods in accordance with California law

· This position requires consistent, on-time attendance in accordance with company policy. Excessive tardiness or absenteeism may impact performance and employment status.

Requirements

  Qualifications and Skills

Education/Licenses/Experience 

· High school diploma or equivalent, required

Skills

· Manufacturing experience, preferred

· Experience working in a laboratory or the healthcare industry, preferred

· Basic medical terminology a plus

 

Physical Requirements

  • Constantly lifting/carrying between 0-10 lbs.
  • Constant standing
  • Constant walking
  • Constant handling (holding, light grasping)
  • Constant fine fingering (pinching, picking)
  • Frequent bending at the neck
  • Frequent bending at the waist
  • Frequent twisting at the neck
  • Frequent reaching above shoulder
  • Frequent reaching below shoulder
  • Frequent pushing and pulling
  • Frequent computer use (keyboard, mouse)
  • Occasional lifting/carrying between 11-25 lbs. 
  • Occasional power grasping
  • Infrequent lifting/carrying between 26-50 lbs.
  • Infrequent lifting/carrying between 50 lbs. 
  • Infrequent sitting
  • Infrequent kneeling
  • Infrequent squatting
  • Infrequent twisting at the waist

Working Conditions 

  • Frequent working in      close proximity to others 
  • Frequent  exposure to extreme cold temperatures, and could be required to enter a walk-in freezer at 32°F or lower
  • Occasional operation of hazardous machinery
  • Occasional exposure to excessive noise
  • Occasional  slippery walking surfaces
  • Infrequent exposure to dust, gas, fumes, or chemicals
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)      such as gloves, mask or goggles
  • Possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens
