Job Description
CARECEN empowers immigrant communities on Long Island through legal services, social work services, community services, and advocacy. With locations in Brentwood and Hempstead, CARECEN supports thousands of families each year and plays a leading role in addressing the interconnected needs of immigrant communities across Long Island.
The Development Manager leads CARECEN’s fundraising, stewardship, and external relations work, ensuring organizational sustainability and growth. This role is responsible for managing individual and institutional fundraising, supporting donor cultivation, executing fundraising events and campaigns, and developing clear, compelling organizational messaging.
The Development Manager works closely with the Executive Director, program leadership, and the Finance Team to ensure CARECEN has the resources it needs to grow cross-sector partnerships, and respond to emerging community needs.
Primary Responsibilities
Fundraising Strategy & Management
- Support the creation and implementation of an annual fundraising plan aligned with CARECEN’s strategic goals.
- Manage a portfolio of foundations, corporations, government agencies, and individual donors.
- Conduct prospect research to identify new funding opportunities and diversify revenue.
- Track progress to goals and prepare regular internal development reports.
Grant Writing & Compliance
- Lead the production of competitive grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and renewal applications.
- Coordinate cross-departmentally to gather program data, outcomes, budgets, and participant stories.
- Maintain an up-to-date grants calendar and ensure all deadlines are met.
- Assist with grant reporting, working closely with program staff and finance to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Donor Engagement & Stewardship
- Manage donor communications, including acknowledgments, stewardship touchpoints, and impact updates.
- Prepare briefing materials for meetings with funders and external partners.
- Maintain the donor database with accurate records and segmentation.
- Support the Executive Director and Board in major donor cultivation.
Communications & External Relations
- Supervise a part-time communications role for fundraising-related content.
- Develop fundraising-related content with communications staff for newsletters, social media, digital campaigns, and the website.
- Ensure that messaging reflects CARECEN’s mission and values.
- Gather stories, quotes, and photos from programs to demonstrate the impact of legal and support services.
Events & Campaign Management
- Plan and execute CARECEN’s annual fundraising event(s), including logistics, sponsorships, and outreach.
- Coordinate seasonal fundraising campaigns (Giving Tuesday, year-end appeals, spring/summer campaigns).
- Support community and partner events that strengthen visibility and donor relationships.
Internal Collaboration
- Work closely with program directors to understand needs, identify funding gaps, and articulate program impact.
- Collaborate with the Finance Team on grant budgets and financial reporting.
- Provide administrative support to the Development Committee of the Board.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Excellent organizational skills
- Advanced skills in written and spoken communication
- Ability to work well across a diverse team
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or other relevant field, or relevant experience in lieu of degree
- Passion for immigration advocacy

Compensation: $67,500 to $85,000 annually
Work environment: Ability to work hybrid based on hybrid work agreement based out of CARECEN’s Hempstead or Brentwood office
