What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bio-Medical Equipment Technician position at CentraCare?
Full-time 80 hours every 2 weeks | Tuesday- Saturday 7:30a-4:00p
JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible to assure the maintenance and repair of the diagnostic and therapeutic instrumentation and equipment used by technicians, doctors, and nurses. May be specialized in one or more areas including but not limited to Laboratory, Dialysis, Respiratory Therapy, Cardiology, etc. Supports and implements patient safety and other safety practices as appropriate. Supports and demonstrates Family Centered Care principles when interacting with patients and their families and with co-workers.
CORE FUNCTIONS:
- Preventive & routine maintenance and repairs of medical equipment.
- Performs scheduled and unscheduled safety and performance testing of medical equipment.
- Assists in maintaining an adequate parts inventory for medical equipment.
- Maintains records and reports associated with equipment services.
- Inspects, assembles, installs and performs acceptance testing on new medical equipment as required, and instructs personnel in use.
- Operates necessary test equipment to perform tests listed above.
- Knowledge of current regulations such as JCAHO, Safe Medical Devices Act, NFPA, etc.
- Compiles data on medical equipment servicing and completes necessary forms.
- Assists in pre-purchase evaluations for various departments.
- Performs assignments in other areas of department when necessary.
EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Associate Degree Graduate of accredited Bio-Medical Equipment Technician program.
- 2 years thorough knowledge of Bio-Medical electronics through minimum of two years of practical experience preferred.
- A valid Minnesota Class D driver’s license and driving record in good standing.
- Additional experience in specialized area listed in function statement may be required.
- May require further education in one or more areas listed in function statement.
