DESCRIPTION:Provide leadership and programmatic coordination to support the AVID Program and advance the institutionalization of Schoolwide AVID. The AVID Coordinator is responsible for ½ of the responsibilities outlined in the job description, while each AVID Leadership Team Position is responsible for ¼ of the responsibilities outlined in the job description. Please see attached job description for additional information.MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

  • Valid California Teaching Credential
  • Documented participation in AVID Center training (AVID Summer Institute) or LACOE AVID trainings (AVID Path Training)
  • Must teach at least one period of AVID during 2025-2026 school year
  • Trained, or willing to be trained, in and implement the Professional Learning Communities (PLC) Model and Adaptive Schools Foundations

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION(S):

  • Prior experience with AVID leadership
  • Willingness to engage colleagues in utilizing schoolwide AVID strategies, promote a college-going culture, collaborate regarding AVID student performance, and support AVID family and outreach events

AVID COORDINATOR & AVID LEADERSHIP TEAM POSITION

JOB DESCRIPTION

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Both AVID positions will provide leadership and programmatic coordination to support the AVID Program and advance the institutionalization of Schoolwide AVID. Immediate Supervisor - Site Administrator Overseeing the AVID Program

Itinerant Supervisor - AVID District Director

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Responsibilities are organized around the four AVID Schoolwide Domains: Instruction, Systems, Leadership, and Culture. This position may be required to attend occasional after-school meetings.

INSTRUCTION

Support high-quality instructional practices that promote rigorous learning and college and career readiness.

  • Promote and support the schoolwide use of AVID instructional strategies (WICOR), including:
    • Writing to learn and the formal writing process
    • Inquiry-based questioning strategies
    • Collaborative learning structures and scholar groups
    • Organizational systems and academic planning tools
    • Critical reading and text annotation practices
  • Communicate regularly with the site Leadership Team regarding implementation of AVID instructional strategies across content areas.
  • Share AVID Weekly resources, instructional tools, and implementation strategies with teachers schoolwide.
  • Collaborate with teachers and AVID colleagues to provide professional learning related to:
    • Writing processes and writing-to-learn strategies
    • Critical reading strategies
    • Inquiry and collaborative learning
    • Organizational systems for student success
  • Support classroom practices that develop student skills in:
    • Collaboration
    • Inquiry
    • Critical thinking
    • Organization and time management
    • Academic writing and reading
  • Support effective implementation of the AVID Tutorial/Scholar Group process.
  • Observe AVID tutors periodically and provide formative feedback to strengthen inquiry-based facilitation and higher-level questioning strategies.
SYSTEMS

Establish and maintain systems that support program implementation, student success, and continuous improvement.

  • Maintain a focus on the collection, analysis, and use of AVID program data to inform instructional decisions and program improvement.
  • Ensure AVID Site Team meetings include analysis of:
    • Student academic performance
    • Access to rigorous coursework
    • College and career readiness indicators
  • Support the AVID Site Team in maintaining and revisiting the AVID Site Plan as a living document aligned to school and district improvement goals.
  • Monitor and track AVID student performance in key areas including:
    • Grades of C or better in core academic courses
    • Enrollment in rigorous coursework (Advanced Placement, honors, dual enrollment, or other advanced courses)
    • Completion of courses of rigor and related assessments
    • Participation in pre-collegiate or college entrance exams
  • Ensure completion and submission of required AVID Center data and certification documentation.
  • Support schoolwide efforts to achieve and maintain AVID Schoolwide Site of Distinction or other AVID recognition statuses.
  • Support recruitment, training, and ongoing support for AVID tutors, including collaboration with administration to ensure adequate tutor staffing.
  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the AVID Tutorial process.
LEADERSHIP

Provide leadership that promotes college and career readiness and supports the sustainability and growth of the AVID program.

  • Serve as a member of the AVID Site Team, helping guide implementation of the AVID program and Schoolwide AVID strategies.
  • Facilitate regular Site Team meetings to review program data, monitor progress toward goals, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Support ongoing articulation with feeder middle schools to strengthen the AVID pipeline, align expectations for college readiness, and support effective recruitment of incoming students.
  • Collaborate with Counselors and the College & Career Counselor to:
    • Review AVID student schedules
    • Monitor academic progress
    • Ensure enrollment in rigorous coursework aligned with college entrance requirements
    • Support students in developing academic plans toward graduation and postsecondary goals.
  • Support recruitment and selection of students who meet the AVID student profile.
  • Participate in outreach and recruitment activities with feeder schools.
  • Coordinate college visits, cultural awareness field trips, and college-readiness activities that expose students to post-secondary opportunities.
  • Coordinate at least two AVID-sponsored community or outreach events annually.
  • Support fundraising activities, when necessary, to enhance student opportunities and program sustainability.
  • Provide leadership that promotes distributed leadership among AVID teachers and Site Team members.
CULTURE

Foster a schoolwide culture that promotes college and career readiness and high expectations for all students.

  • Promote a college- and career-going culture across the campus through collaboration with the site Leadership Team.
  • Support the development of student agency and leadership skills through the AVID elective, AVID Club, and other student leadership opportunities.
  • Organize family workshops and engagement events designed to increase family awareness and support of college and career readiness.
  • Develop relationships with families and community partners to strengthen student support networks.
  • Support efforts to increase awareness of AVID and college readiness expectations among students, families, and staff.
  • Promote opportunities for students to participate in enrichment activities, leadership experiences, and college and career exploration opportunities.
