GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Math Instructional Coach provides sustained, job-embedded professional development to strengthen mathematics instruction and improve achievement for students at risk of not meeting standards. The coach builds teacher capacity by modeling effective problem-solving strategies, supporting standards-based lesson planning, and guiding the use of assessment data to inform instruction. In partnership with teachers, the coach addresses misconceptions, promotes differentiated strategies, and supports conceptual understanding and mathematical reasoning. Responsibilities include leading PLCs and data discussions, providing classroom-based coaching and feedback, and aligning core instruction, and iReady practices. This role supports Title I goals by enhancing teacher effectiveness, maximizing instructional time, and ensuring students receive rigorous, high-quality math instruction that leads to greater engagement and academic success.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- S.C. certification in Early Childhood and/or Elementary School
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree
- Five years teaching experience preferred
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching of mathematics
- Have the experience or preparation that enables him or her to model, observe, and provide feedback about mathematics instruction for classroom teachers.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Models effective instructional strategies for teachers.
- Facilitates study groups/team meetings.
- Trains teachers in data analysis and using data to differentiate instruction.
- Coaches and mentors colleagues.
- Provides daily support to classroom teachers.
- Works with teachers to ensure that research-based reading programs are implemented with fidelity.
- Helps lead and support mathematics instruction at his or her school.
- Continues to increase his or her knowledge base in the best practices in mathematics instruction, intervention, and remediation strategies.
- Works with all teachers (including content area, and elective areas) in the school he or she serves, prioritizing time for those teachers, activities, and roles that will have the greatest impact on student achievement, namely coaching and mentoring in classroom.
- Works with students in whole and small group instruction to supplement classroom learning.
- Participates and conducts professional development sessions at the school and district level.
- Participates as an integral member of the school’s intervention or other at-risk teams.
- Performs other duties as directed.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 190 days. Salary to be determined by the salary schedule established by the Board.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Principal and in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy.
