Centers For Family Development, Inc. (CFDI) is a private, non-profit comprehensive family counseling agency that was originally established in 1978 as Black Family Development, Inc. (BFDI) by the Detroit Chapter of the National Association of Black Social Workers (DNABSW). By establishing BFDI as a family counseling agency, DABSW sought to promote and provide quality community-aligned social work services in Detroit. Since that time, BFDI has grown to accommodate the increasing demand for a variety of specialized family-focused counseling and services in the community.

CFDI’s programming includes early childhood resources and literacy development, a 3-tiered juvenile justice service array, mental health prevention and treatment, substance use disorder prevention and treatment, R.E.A.L Brothers supportive resources, school-based intervention, and trauma-informed care. Most importantly, our staff are heroes who strive to match passion for service with equal parts best practice to partner with families to achieve their goals.

Our organization is seeking a Full-time Infant Mental Health Specialist with the corresponding experience requirements:

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Infant Mental Health Specialist provides services to parents, guardians, or caregivers/educators of children, birth to age five years old who are experiencing difficulties with socialization, bonding and attachment processes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct parenting-focused coaching, counseling and educational sessions with parents and their children to help build skills and promote positive parent-child attachment.
  • Assist parents of children with developmental, mental, behavioral, or emotional disturbances to gain skills and connect with parenting resources.
  • Support infant and early childhood professionals to build skills, promote positive interactions with children and parents, and to prepare for Infant Mental Health Endorsement (IMH-E) where desired.
  • Support/supervision of MH interns.
  • Provide support and reflective consultation, from an IECMH perspective, to childcare and clinical staff regarding assessments, therapeutic techniques and best practices.
  • Conduct an annual biopsychosocial assessment, development and implementation of a Person-Centered Plan, and crisis intervention when needed.
  • Employ treatment modalities which may include individual, conjoint, family, psycholinguistic, and psychoeducational models of therapeutic intervention, as well as some case management.
  • Conduct home and community-based visits with families and participates in interdisciplinary team meetings with internal and external child serving partners.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

  • Minimum of two years of post-graduate supervised clinical experience, including experience providing case management services, crisis intervention, psychoeducation, and counseling for persons with young children, toddlers, and infants.
  • Knowledge and experience with prevalent theories of child development a must.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in social work, clinical psychology, counseling, or other related human services field from an accredited university. Professional licensure, specifically licensed or limited licensure as related to human services degree. Preferred: Infant Mental Health Specialist (IMHS) Mi-AIHM Endorsement or higher.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
