CenterPoint Energy is looking for a SEC Accounting Manager to join our CNP SEC Reporting Team, located in Houston, TX.
You will have the ability to: lead and manage a department responsible for monthly financial consolidations as well as quarterly and annual financial reporting, including the review and preparation of quarterly and annual SEC financial reporting (Forms 10-K and 10-Q). A partner with other finance and accounting functions to ensure success of the organization in establishing and maintaining an effective internal control environment compliant with the Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX). Responsible for maintaining a sound financial reporting control structure through the development of systems and procedures, supporting technical accounting conclusions, and performance of analytics.

To be successful in this role you will:
- Ensure compliance with SOX, SEC and other local standards and requirements.
- Work collaboratively with the financial reporting team to prepare/review the external financial statements, footnotes and MD&A for SEC reports including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, in compliance with GAAP and SEC rules and regulations.
- Ensure accurate and timely filing of all required SEC financial statements and other SEC filings.
- Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC accounting and reporting requirements, including ability to monitor, research and implement new SEC rules, as well as apply S-X, S-K and Reg. G requirements.
- Work cross-functionally with the accounting research team and other groups to foresee potential accounting issues and recommend practical solutions associated with business transactions.
- Maintain an in-depth understanding and analysis of significant transactions to assess their impact for SEC disclosure purposes.
- Thorough understanding of ASC 230 and statement of cash flows reporting.
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly financial consolidations in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
- Coordinate with external auditors and serve as a key contact in the annual audit process.
- Manage supporting documentation from various parts of the company to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- Collaborate with departments and managers regarding the reporting processes and information required for proper and timely disclosures.
- Maintain an awareness of business activities and the related regulatory environment to effectively manage and comply with all regulatory reporting requirements and disclosures.
- Participate in discussions with business teams to assess the accounting treatment of new, emerging, or changing business activities.
Your background includes:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
- CPA Certification.
- Minimum seven (7) years of relevant experience, with at least two years of SEC reporting experience with a publicly traded company.
A bonus to have:
- Big 4 public accounting and energy industry experience preferred.
- SAP BPC planning system and reporting tools experience preferred.
