What are the responsibilities and job description for the Music Director position at Centerpoint Church?
PURPOSE:
The Music Director at Centerpoint Church in Murrieta will bring musical excellence to all of our music worship experiences. The purpose is to partner with the Worship Director and lead the band to foster a creative musical environment that ushers in the presence and move of God in services and events. This position will also focus on enhancing the music and facilitating for our ministries across all departments at Centerpoint Church.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Music Director position reports to the Worship Director
The Music Director will mentor and develop volunteer musicians throughout all worship ministries for Centerpoint Church.
The Music Director will help produce the sound/style for Centerpoint Worship which includes producing and arranging original music for Centerpoint Church.
The Music Director will also coordinate all band functions for ministries, including scheduling musicians, communication, and development.
FIT:
The MD must be a skilled musician, have an understanding of musical instruments and music technology, be able to comprehend the Centerpoint’s vision, have the personal and musical skills to communicate that vision to the band, and be able to build a deep sense of collegiality among the players in the worship band.
KEY RESULTS AREAS (KRA):
1. Music Director and Coordinator for band rehearsals, Sunday services and other Centerpoint events
- Play and Music Direct for weekend services (Sundays 9am, 11am, 5pm).
- Update and manage Planning Center with uploading tracks, reference tracks, charts, etc.
- Build Abelton sessions, playback and coordinate service plans with CP Worship Staff.
- Planning & Organizing: Schedules bands for weekends, seek weeks, seek nights, ministries, and other special events.
- Participates in all CP Worship events such as team nights, worship nights, development nights, and all staff related events.
- Brings a level of personal excellence to the team, raising the expectation of what it is to be excellent. Will teach and demonstrate the importance of rehearsal and preparation for services and events.
- Other duties as assigned by the Worship Director
2. Develop musicians within the music ministry and be a minister at large
- Recruit, train, and develop sufficient competent musicians who embody excellence in weekend services and additional areas needing worship musicians
- Create development plans with the Worship Director for musician growth, track and have regular communication on the growth of musicians.
- When available, give 1-on-1 lessons as needed to develop musicians and MDs.
- Coordinate and lead the monthly Band Collective events (monthly gathering geared towards community within the band members).
- Actively participating and stewarding the worship audition/onboarding process.
- Build a development process for those volunteers who did not meet the required expectations for platform worship.
- Shepherding: provides guidance, nurture, musical development and spiritual covering to the body of Christ by leading people to a deeper relationship with Jesus and thus into greater Christ likeness and musical excellence.

3. Collaboratively create and arrange for Centerpoint Worship and Centerpoint MSC
- Create arrangements for songs used during worship experiences throughout all ministries.
- Sit as a Producer for Centerpoint Worship, help arrange and produce all music.
- Assist in songwriting when needed.
- Collaborate with Weekend Experience teams to develop personalized tracks for special events such as Christmas, Easter, and provide musical roadmaps in preparation for those events.
- Other duties as assigned by the Worship Director
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
3 years of experience as an MD or a BA Degree in Music
Expertise on at least once instrument, preferably keys
3 years experience playing in worship bands for church organizations

This is a part-time, non-exempt position that is required to work 20 hours per week. As a member of the Centerpoint Worship Team it is your responsibility to fulfill the expectations of this role, the execution of assignments, and ensure collaboration with other departments and ministry areas through clear communication and modeling healthy teamsmanship and practicing appropriate work/life balance. Staff team members are expected to be able and willing to adapt to the ever-changing needs of the ministry and relentlessly pursue the alignment of individual and department goals with the mission and vision of Centerpoint Church. Some of the work required (scheduling and communications) can be done remotely.
