Heavy Equipment / Crane Mechanic
Locations: Deer Park, NY & Westhampton, NY (Long Island) – 1 hiring for each location
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment / Crane Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain cranes and heavy construction equipment supporting operations across Long Island. This position will work on mobile cranes, boom trucks, diesel equipment, hydraulic systems, and related heavy machinery in both shop and field environments.
The ideal candidate will have an experience with heavy equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, especially hydraulics, diesel engines, electrical systems, and crane components. Experience specifically with cranes is highly preferred; however, experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanics with transferable skills are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on cranes, boom trucks, and heavy equipment
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine issues
- Inspect equipment to ensure safe and proper operation
- Repair or replace defective components including pumps, cylinders, hoses, brakes, bearings, and wire rope systems
- Conduct troubleshooting using diagnostic software and testing equipment
- Perform field service calls and emergency repairs as needed
- Maintain accurate service and maintenance records
- Work closely with operations and equipment teams to minimize downtime
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in compliance with OSHA and company standards
- Maintain clean and organized shop and work areas
- Assist with inspections and equipment readiness for projects and transportation
Qualifications
- At least 2 years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic, or Crane Mechanic
- Experience working on construction or lifting equipment preferred
- Strong understanding of hydraulic, electrical, and diesel systems
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair heavy machinery independently
- Welding and fabrication experience is a plus
- Ability to lift heavy parts and work in outdoor conditions
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Preferred Experience
- Mobile cranes or boom truck maintenance
- Hydraulic troubleshooting and repair
- Diesel engine diagnostics
- Field service experience
- Crane inspection or lifting equipment knowledge
- OEM experience with Manitowoc, Grove, Link-Belt, Liebherr, Tadano, CAT, Komatsu, or similar equipment
Work Environment
- Combination of shop and field service work
- Travel between Deer Park and Westhampton locations as needed
- Overtime and occasional after-hours emergency service may be required
Salary : $75,000 - $80,000
