Job Summary

Performs company field operations including manual labor and other duties necessary to accomplish the installation, repair and maintenance of natural gas distribution facilities. Handles customer requests and represents the Company in the community.

Essential Functions

  • Initiates gas service and perform leak investigations and makes repairs.
  • Locates gas lines.
  • Reads gas meters.
  • Conduct load surveys.
  • Completes work order system documentation.
  • Serves as First Responder in emergency situations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Description

  • Requires a high school education or the equivalent knowledge of English, basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and calculation of fractions and/or percentages), grammar, spelling and punctuation.

Experience

  • Requires no prior related work experience.
  • Requires possession of a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record as determined by the Company.
  • Able to apply knowledge of industry and company safety standards and regulations.
  • Able to demonstrate an aptitude for basic mechanical tasks.
  • Able to use the proper tools for any given job.
  • Able to install and read pressure gauges, voltage meters, pipe locators, etc.
  • Able to repair service lines.
  • Able to bar test and classify underground leaks.
  • Able to perform odorization activities.
  • Able to respond to customers with courtesy and knowledge, in person and by telephone, applying good judgment and customer service skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Able to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, reach, climb stairs and ladders, and crawl in confined spaces such as attics or crawl spaces.
  • Able to exert routine physical effort on a regular basis.
  • Able to use a variety of hand and/or power tools.
  • Able to operate a motor vehicle and the ability to enter and exit vehicle unassisted.

Working Conditions

  • Able to work with routine exposure to all weather conditions.
  • Able to work regular hours, with occasional overtime, may be required to work rotating shifts.
  • Able to certify and do personal protective equipment, such as respirator, safety glasses, hardhat, gloves, protective footwear and earplugs on a daily basis.
  • Able to handle emergency situations, including possible exposure to gaseous atmospheres on occasion.
  • Able to respond to callouts and occasionally return to work while off duty.
  • Able to be included in random drug screen pool required for DOT safety sensitive positions.
