JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the oculoplastic provider, the medical assistant supports a high-volume clinic, assisting with both medical and minor surgical procedures involving the eyelids, lacrimal system, and periocular region. The role requires strong clinical skills, efficiency, and the ability to anticipate provider needs in a fast-paced setting. Dermatology or procedural experience is highly preferred.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (other duties as required):
COMPETENCIES:
High school diploma.
Prior experience in a customer service role.
Must be able to work under pressure and respond to patient requests in a positive manner.
Preferred Education And Experience
Prior experience in dermatology, ophthalmology, plastics, or procedural specialty preferred
Associate’s degree (preferred).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Demonstrated ability to do excessive walking, standing, bending, and stooping. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or control, reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, kneel, and crouch. The employee may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (50-90 pounds). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: This is a full-time position Monday through Friday.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (other duties as required):
- Prepares examination/treatment rooms for provider use by ensuring that appropriate supplies, equipment, and instruments are available and ready as evidenced by the appointment schedule.
- Assists provider during in-office procedures (i.e chalazion excisions, lesion biopsies, injections, minor surgical repairs, etc)
- Anticipates provider needs and maintains efficient patient flow throughout clinic
- Room patients, obtain histories, documents accurately in EMR, and prepare patients for exams and procedures.
- Provides patient education regarding procedure details and pre/ post-procedure care
- Performs clinical tasks within scope, including suture removal and wound care
- Sterilizes equipment and supplies, using disinfectants and autoclave, as required, following established procedures.
- Collects specimens per visit protocol or provider’s order, properly labels containers and forwards to laboratory for analysis. Verifies lab order has been entered into patient’s electronic record. When required, prints out requisition from patient’s medical record to accompany specimen to lab.
- Submits new prescriptions and refill prescriptions according to provider orders in a timely manner.
- Communicates pathology results and returns patient calls/messages in a timely manner
- Maintains strict patient confidentiality and adhere to all compliance standards
- Adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and contractual obligations. Follows the principles of the Compliance Program as well as the Code of Conduct.
COMPETENCIES:
- Demonstrates the ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Demonstrates knowledge of material, methods, instruments, and equipment.
- Demonstrates the ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations.
- Must be able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality. Ability to multi-task, work in a fast-paced environment and manage time accordingly to meet deadlines and requirements of the organization.

- Travel is required. Provider sees patients at following office locations: UTC, SRQ Main, Pelican, AMARA (Venice) and Englewood
