Nurse Practitioner - TENT

Center for Neurosciences
Tucson, AZ Full Time
POSTED ON 7/11/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 8/10/2026

This unique role combines clinical Facial Plastics/ENT practice with a specialized focus on perioperative and postoperative coordination for Mohs surgery patients.

The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between our Facial Plastics/ENT and reconstructive surgery, ensuring that patients requiring skin cancer excision and subsequent repair receive seamless, high-quality care from Dr. Jonnae Ostrom, a Facial Plastics ENT Surgeon.

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will serve as a vital clinical partner, often managing the "bread and butter" office visits to allow surgeons to focus on complex operative procedures.

The role is a blend of independent clinical decision-making, procedural skill, and patient education.

Key Responsibilities

1. Otolaryngology Clinical Care

  • Patient Assessment: Conduct comprehensive histories and physical exams for new and established ENT and Facial Plastics patients.
  • Diagnosis & Management: Treat common ENT conditions, including sinusitis, allergies, hearing loss, vertigo, and cerumen impaction, suture removals, and attend to post-operative patients.
  • Procedures: Perform in-office procedures such as flexible laryngoscopy, nasal endoscopy, ear debridement, and biopsy of suspicious lesions.
  • Post-Op Care: Manage routine post-operative follow-ups for ENT surgeries (e.g., tonsillectomy, thyroidectomy, sinus surgery), including Facial Plastics, suture removals, and nasal splint removal.

2. Mohs Surgery & Reconstruction Coordination

  • Pre-Surgical Navigation: Act as the primary point of contact for referring practitioners and patients diagnosed with cutaneous malignancies requiring Mohs surgery.
  • Interdisciplinary Liaison: Coordinate schedules between the Mohs surgeon (dermatology) and our ENT surgeon for complex reconstructions.
  • Patient Education: Counsel patients on the Mohs process, wound care, and expectations for scarring and recovery.
  • Surgical Assisting: (Optional, based on experience) Assist the surgeon in the office-based setting for reconstructive closures.

3. Administrative & Continuity of Care

  • Order Management: Review pathology reports and ensure timely notification and follow-up for patients. Review and address internal EMR orders given by the surgeon
  • Care Planning: Develop individualized recovery plans for patients undergoing multi-stage reconstructive procedures.
  • Documentation: Maintain meticulous electronic health records (EHR) and ensure all surgical clearances are obtained.
  • Scheduling: Coordinate Mohs surgical intervention on behalf of the surgeon and patient in a facility setting. Ensure proper instruments, grafting, and all requests from the primary surgeon are adhered to.
  • Physician Consult Billing: Accurately code and bill physician hospital consults
